Obama Assassination Attempt Stopped

i'm surprised this isn't getting more airplay.

CBS4 has learned at least four people are under arrest in connection with a possible plot to kill Barack Obama at his Thursday night acceptance speech in Denver. All are being held on either drug or weapons charges.

CBS4 Investigator Brian Maass reported one of the suspects told authorities they were "going to shoot Obama from a high vantage point using a ... rifle sighted at 750 yards."

Law enforcement sources tell Maass that one of the suspects "was directly asked if they had come to Denver to kill Obama. He responded in the affirmative."

The story began emerging Sunday morning when Aurora police arrested 28-year-old Tharin Gartrell. He was driving a rented pickup truck in an erratic manner according to sources.

Sources told CBS4 police found two high-powered, scoped rifles in the car along with camouflage clothing, walkie-talkies, wigs, a bulletproof vest, a spotting scope, licenses in the names of other people and 44 grams of methamphetamine. One of the rifles is listed as stolen from Kansas...

Subsequently authorities went to the Cherry Creek Hotel to contact an associate of Gartrell's. But that man, identified as Shawn Robert Adolph, 33, who was wanted on numerous warrants, jumped out of a sixth floor hotel window. Law enforcement sources say Adolph broke an ankle in the fall and was captured moments later. Sources say he had a handcuff ring and was wearing a swastika, and is thought to have ties to white supremacist organizations.

According to the news report I heard this morning, their plan was to situate themselves in an upper portion of the stadium and shoot Senator Obama as he was making his speech Thursday night. This plan would not have worked, the newscaster informed me, due to the security measures in place at the stadium and the laws of physics.

50 years ago, he wouldn't be the nominee. He wouldn't be a Senator. He wouldn't have a chance at being president. So what do you think?

200 years from now, we will still have the occasional wacko.

The assassins are being described as redneck meth-heads, but that's clearly a cover for the real story -- the assassins are Serbians who want to get back at Obama because he once authorized a special op that accidentally resulted in the deaths of a Serbian leader's family. Luckily one of the special ops agents was called in to assist the Secret Service and managed to get all the Serbs, though sadly the agent's wife was killed by a mole within the government.

Nothing has changed in the past 50 years. Except cell phones. They are much lighter now and are available in pink.

The security presense implemented at stadium venues when a president visits is enormous. They are everywhere. It's probably one of the safest places a president or candidate can be.

1. Camouflaged clothes are probably going to have the opposite effect in a national convention hall. A dark suit with blue tie and USA flag pin or a waiter's outfit would be more discrete.

2. I'm sure that the Secret Service has thwarted multiple assassination attempts on both candidates and will continue to do so until and after the election. Giving people press for doing something like this would just encourage other crazies with an agenda looking for TV time.

I would think a USA flag pin would stick out pretty bad at the DNC.

First thing I thought of too. I wonder if they put on the jungle makeup and had the shrub on their helmet?

At least one account mocked these guys as idiots, whose plan had zero chance of working.

The sad thing is you just know McCain has nothing to fear. A crazy person who does something like this tends to lean more toward the right than the left if you get my meaning.
Obama on the other hand....Well let's just say I hope he is ok and makes it with these crazes out there.

The good news is that the Secret Service is absolutely amazing. It takes a kind of courage above and beyond to sign up for a job where one of the things you're expected to do is step in front of a bullet to protect someone.

Yeah they do. I remember that crazed right winger going after Reagan.

Maybe Ayers and his type don't qualify because you don't see them as "crazed."

You were wrong when you said this in another thread, and you still are. History doesn't support that statement. Perhaps you should rethink things before you post, then you'd avoid saying things like "FOX is worse than child molesters."

I didn't think Hinckley's craziness had anything to do with politics. He just wanted to kill someone important so he could impress Jodi Foster. I get the sense that had the 1980 election come out the other way, he would have been just as happy to try to kill President Carter.

Which is not to say there aren't left-wing crazies -- just that Hinckley isn't one of them.

Hinckley is a bad example. Lee Harvey Oswald fits a bit better.

serious question, I don't know the answer. But I can't think of any.

besides, maybe they wanted him dead for his socialist plans
