I actually am. I really expected it soon after the whole charlie fox trot with the 2000 elections. I know there have been attempts thwarted, but I am really shocked somebody didn't manage to succeed.

Perhaps the fear of having Cheney in control kept him alive.

No. Nobody ever tried to assassinate Carter either.

You mean he's not in charge?

Could have fooled me...

As shocking as the fact that he didn't make abortion illegal.....not at all shocking.

Or perhaps would-be assassins are afraid of Cheney shooting them. He has some experience at shooting people.

Considering that no one has offed O.J., my faith in secret groups that set the world to rights has almost completely diminished.

I believe the "pretzel incident" was an act of attempted assassination.

by the way, I'd bet my full head of luscious hair that W was drunk when that happened......but that's beside the point.

Like Cheney would be an improvement ?? That would be a stupid move. So you'd need someone that dumb, but smart enough to pull of an assassination? Not possible.

I actually am a little. Considering all the whacko extremists out there - I'd figure one of them would have at least attempted it. Wasn't a grenade thrown at him but it didn't explode?

A couple of years ago when I went to see his father speak we walked right into the auditorium .. no searches no nothing. So I'm surprised nobody got to him or to his father.

I would think it would be from someone with a more personal vendetta against him, like a Charles Guiteau, rather than political, unless they managed to get Bush and Cheney together.

On a semi-related topic, I saw Secret Service agents swarm and disarm a man at a rally during Clinton's first campaign. It was surreal. And fast, without mercy. I wouldn't mess with those guys.

If Obama is elected, it would be pretty piss-poor timing to assassinate Bush -- but who knows?

Not surprised a bit. They even screen the audiences of Bush's speeches to make sure everyone there is a supporter. The freedom-loving America of Squeaky Fromme and John Hinkley is gone.

No. The president has to be one of the hardest people to kill in the world.
