Should George W Bush be worried?

Given what a polarizing and controversial political figure he has been, once he leaves office, and no longer has the full security staff and protection/isolation from the general public that being the reigning President provides, should he be more worried than your average ex-President about his safety and well-being?

/guaranteed this post gets me on some watch-list!

He gets secret service protection for 10 years, iirc. He'll be fine.

I can't remember a president who wasn't a polarizing figure.

Have there been any assassination attempts on any ex-presidents?

I thought it was for life. Is it limited to ten years? I remember when Nixon elected to not use Secret Service protection as an ex-president, but that was his choice.

wasn't there reports of Saddam trying to attack Bush 1 when he was in Kuwait? Were those valid?

He'll be fine as long as he doesn't go hunting with Vice-President Cheney.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv...ine/062793.htm

Clinton said he ordered the attack after receiving "compelling evidence" from U.S. intelligence officials that Bush had been the target of an assassination plot and that the plot was "directed and pursued by the Iraqi Intelligence Service."

"It was an elaborate plan devised by the Iraqi government and directed against a former president of the United States because of actions he took as president," Clinton said. Bush led the coalition that drove Iraq from Kuwait in the 1991 Persian Gulf War. "As such, the Iraqi attack against President Bush was an attack against our country and against all Americans," Clinton said.

That was my point - Clinton used that 'report' as an excuse to launch cruise missile attacks on Iraq.

See - all presidents make up excuses to take military action. Well, at the least the last two have.
