That's Norway for you

Did you know...

that in Norway tax records are available to the public?

Anyone can go in, any time, to view what one's neighbor makes yearly and pays in taxes.

Wow, strong lack of privacy.

Scandinavians are pretty IDIOTIC when it comes to protecting privacy.

Anyone in the state can find out how much money I make. Anyone with internet access can find out how much my wife and I paid for our house.

That's America for you!

In this country you can go in and examine birth & marriage records.

Some believe that's somewhat of an invasion of privacy.

As Shakespeare would say: 'Me thinketh the author of this thread doth protesteth too much.;

Here in Sweden our equivalent to your social security numbers is also a matter of public record, so when someone checks my income they can also get their hands on that.
With this info you could also check wether or not I have a driving license, my grades in school, what vehicles are registered to me etc.

But even with all this public information, Identity theft is not very common.

Never mind most US citizens, it's better than 95% of the posters here.
This just shows how different cultures are. In India for example, one of the first questions that people ask is how much you make. When someone new comes from India, it can make for some awkward moments when they ask people what their income is. Many times a third party will say, so and so "is doing well, they're making 50,000 Rupees(per month)."

Growing up in front of the TV watching US shows will do that for ya...
All joking aside I get by, got the basics at 6 or 7 years of age and thus had a bit of a head start on the other kids.
So when the english class started in fourth grade (at age 10) it was pretty much a rehash of stuff I already knew, so not to get bored I chose advanced classes and stuff like that.

And 20 years of practise doesn't harm either, but my semi-joking opening comment actually has some bearing.
Growing up watching Dallas, Falcon Crest and other shows in english has no doubt helped to improve my english quite a bit.

Not a bit on-topic though.

When I read the title of this thread, my first thought was....

"That'd make a great title for a tv show."
