"Too bad Hillary didn't marry OJ"

I saw this bumper sticker again today. Not counting how lame and how distasteful it is, isn't it illegal? Isn't suggesting the murder of an exfirstlady against some law? Or does it only apply to the President?

I've seen plenty of Bush bumper stickers that are just as bad.

Yup, like the one I saw that said "Too bad Bush didn't marry Brynn Hartman."

I think it's a vague enough message that you can't outright say that it's suggesting murder. Perhaps it's suggesting that OJ would have been president had he married her?

Why would it be illegal to threaten the life of the First Lady? She's not a government official.

I don't really consider that a threat anyway. It may be wishing someone was dead, but that's not the same as wishing or saying you will kill them.

well i'm pretty sure it is illegal to threaten anyone's life.

this, however, isn't an overt threat but enough to get you in trouble (i think) if the object was an elected official as you point out. but...hillary is an elected official

it is wishing/suggesting someone else kill them, right?

i know it is a joke but similar jokes about the president have gotten people in trouble. are those strict rules only applied to the president?

Only if you are wallpapering your car...

The context of "Too bad Hillary didn't marry OJ" or "Too bad Bush didn't marry Brynn Hartman" is obvious but it is a bit different than saying "Too bad OJ didn't kill Hillary too" or "Too bad Brynn Hartman didn't kill Bush too." (We miss you Phil).

As a comedian said there are already enough angry drivers on the road so why do we want to add political bumper stickers to the mix?

Is there seriously a Bush/Brynn Hartman bumper sticker? At least people know who OJ is.

No I made it up. It was just the first woman who came to my head who killed her husband pretty publicly.

No, but bumper stickers that aren't funny or insightful should be illegal. A quick memory check of the last 10,000 bumper stickers I've seen reveals that we can drop the qualifier and just make them all illegal with no negative effect.

But without bumper stickers, how will I know whether somebody is the proud parent of a Chester A. Arthur Junior High School Honor Student?
