Gun-toting soldiers were not angels (Brits in Iran)

Since some of our forum members have absolute faith in confessions under duress, they must also believe the confessions of the British soldiers that they were in Iranian waters. Also their statements that the war in Iraq is wrong, etc.

I mean, just for consistency's sake.

Oh, wait, this the Political Forum.

Some of our forum members have absolute faith in the Bush Administration.

The war in Iraq is not particularly wrong, but it's retarded and a waste of time.

Gentlemen - let's try to keep this on-topic.

You know, how wonderful torture is. You only get the truth using this method. Why, I think we might be able to find a source of cheap, renewable energy this way! All we have to do is "perform rendition" on a few of our physicists and the problem will be licked in no time!

1 Crew boards merchant ship 1.7NM inside Iraqi waters
2 HMS Cornwall was south-east of this, and inside Iraqi waters
3 Iran tells UK that merchant ship was at a different point, still within Iraqi waters
4 After UK points this out, Iran provides alternative position, now within Iranian waters

Looks like someone is not an angel, but its the person who doesn't know how to reference GPS coordinates to a map

ALthough the Cornwall should have been "Iran-ward" of the merchant ship and attacked anything that attacked it or its small boats. A Phalanx autonomous gun would have provided a fun ending.

No, no, no. Facts don't matter, you see. The people involved (the Brits) have explained that they were in the wrong. That's all that matters.

Try to keep up.

According to the Brits, the Cornwall couldn't be closer due to the shallow water.

Don't you know? You don't need to have evidence of torture anymore. TORTURE IS EVERYWHERE!

Oh, so you agree the soldiers made their statements of their own free will.

See, you know how this works! Great!

Remember people. Iran = good guys. The Brits are obviously fighting for Bush so they are the bad guys. I mean that's the point of this thread isn't it?

For now only they know why they made the statements they did, I'm sure after they are released we'll get all sorts of explainations (or perhaps if someone is more familiar w/ the British SOP in these situations they'll enlighten us). I was just wondering who had said they were tortured? I know you're trying to turn this into a general condemnation of torture (and I don't entirely disagree w/ you as I think info gained that way is questionable) but I don't think this situation really fits w/ what you are trying to do. JMO.

I think the point is Blah Blah = opportunity to hate on Bush Administration.

This is of course assuming that the OP is intelligent enough to understand there is a difference between the two confessions.

I assumed you were intelligent enough to realize that this is not a comment on the Bush administration, but instead on the validity of confessions under duress.

I guess I was wrong in assuming that level of intelligence.

You may now return to watching Fox News.

Yes.

didn't you get the memo?

Who would pick human rights, liberty, free market, material wealth and high standards of living when you could have sand, flies and the Quran and expect to die at age 55?
