Newsweek Poll: 90% believe in God

Yowsa!

I guess DVDTalk is not representative of the public, as we would have reversed Newsweek's results. :) I'd be curious about how the polling was conducted and how reliable the pollsters (Princeton Survey Research Associates International) are.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17875540/site/newsweek/

14. Do you believe in God?

91%
Yes

6%
No

3%
Don't know

Bronkster 03-31-07 03:35 PM

Nah. People only say that in polls so, just in case they were wrong, they can point to the poll when Jesus comes to kick them to Hell.

Artman 03-31-07 03:51 PM

A great follow-up would be "do you believe enough that it influences your life in any meaningful way?"

Maybe 15%...

Groucho 03-31-07 03:54 PM

Well, I'm convinced. If people answered thusly in a poll, it must be correct!

Well, Richard Dawkins lists a similar poll to this one and then compares it to a poll of Nobel Prize winning scientists, which was almost exactly the opposite. So if we here mirror Nobel Prize winners in our beliefs, I think that's a good thing!

:)

DVD POLIZEI BREAKING NETWORK NEWS

Princeton Survey Research Associates International recently admitted they incorrectly posted results. The question was, "Do you believe in God" was posted and received a 91% YES, but sources say the original question was, "Do you believe in Blogs."

Sources say Christians are angry with the changed results and are planning a boycott of all advertisers.

In other news, the Chocolate Jesus is also being boycotted, but DVDPBNN has obtained information some Christians were caught nibbling on the Holy Man in various peculiar areas on the chocolate body.

I'll bet Dawkins was talking about Nobel Prizes that aren't the Peace Prize which any creep like Arafat, Kissinger, that Vietnamese dude or Mother Theresa can win or even Al Gore or Rush Limbaugh might win. ;)

Don't forget Jimmy Carter.

Exactly - when I said Nobel Prize winning scientists, I meant only scientists who won the Nobel Prize!

Yeah, who am I to agree with all these uber-smart scientists on global warming? Poppycock I say. Rush told me there's no such thing and he's *SO* much smarter than those guys.

CinemaNut 03-31-07 06:57 PM

90% showed intelligence in this poll. Too bad they are also a big part of the 51% that elected George Bush. Cant have the sweet without the sour I guess

What skeptical scientist says there's no such thing as global warming? Or that CO2 emissions contribute nothing to it? But thanks for that straw man once again.

And it's a good thing that none of those uber-smart scientists think anthropogenic global warming is not a terrible crisis.

True, for reasons of a lack of today's knowledge; cultural, political and social reasons; and not to mention that you could be burned at the stake.

It's quite different today and scientists, on average, are far less religious than the general population.

Also, it's instructive that you say "men" of faith. In the past much of that world was closed to women. Is it odd that a much higher percentage of scientists and other intellectual and artistic colossi are women now than then?

Oh yeah, and water is wet. ;)

I thought it was fashionable to not believe in god?

Ranger 03-31-07 11:50 PM

Is that people worldwide or in the U.S. only?

Here's my poll results - 90% of Americans believe that wrestling is real.

Thoughs?

DVD Polizei 04-01-07 12:31 AM

Using a little prepositional logic, we conclude 90% of the US population believe God is a wrestler.

What's the big deal?

I've heard/read that figure (or an even higer percentage) all my life.

Don't an overwhelming majority of Americans attend church regularly?
And don't the majority of Americans say they would never vote for an atheist for Pres?
