Is anyone getting depressed about the 2008 Presidential Candidates?

I'm a Democrat but I think both sides must be pretty unhappy about the front runners. Are Clinton, Obama, McCain and Guliani really the best this county can do in this crucial time in America?

it's called the grass is greener syndrome. There are 12 or so Republican candidates and 8 or so Democratic candidates. Who else would you like to see run? I mean the only person who will agree with you on every single topic or issue .... is you.

After following presidential campaigns for 30+ years it's no longer possible for me to get depressed over the selection of candidates.

Getting? I haven't been excited about a campaign since I voted for Yoda in '92.

Look no further than Gov. Bill Richardson.

He is the most qualified candidate I've seen run for the presidency in years - hell, even in my memory.

Isn't this a recurring sentiment every 4 years?

This is a pretty good crop of candidates.

We've got governors, senators, mayor, and a senator who was number 2 (or maybe number 1) in the White House.

Actually, C-Man brings up a good point -- if you look past the front-runners on either side, you'll see candidates that are a lot more dynamic, if a bit more polarizing. For example, on the Democratic side, John Edwards has really taken on the progressive mantle; on the Republican side, you have figures like Brownback and Huckabee who definitely appeal to the base.

Plus, if recent elections are any indication, the candidate you see in TV commercials will in no way resemble the future President of the United States. Remember, in 2000, George Bush was a "compassionate conservative" and Al Gore was a "moderate Democrat".

Condi Rice is not running. It's unlikely we'll ever elect a President Newt.

As for the third... well, let's just say, I don't know how he'll go over in the Bible Belt.

Rice is not running. Gingrich is, but if he's still a candidate by the time the first priamries roll around, I'll be very surprised.

It took you over four minutes to type this?

Oh, wait, I forgot. You're a lawyer. You're used to getting paid by the hour.

What are Newt Gingrich's great qualifications?

Granted, he was a rather successful bomb thrower while in the minority as a member of the House and Minority Whip.

A dismal failure as the Speaker

Giuliani would have a great chance of being President. Unfortunately, he apparently has no chance of being the Republican nominee.

If you are going to put his qualifications up against Senator Clinton or Obama, do you think he is dead last?

I use to laugh at the idea of him running because of how polarizing he is. But then Hillary got in the race, and I decided that polorization must not be enough to keep someone out.

Hogwash!!

He resigned in disgrace.

Come to think of it - Repubs seem to rather fond of people who, shall we say, have ethical problems. On second thought, he'd make a great candidate for the Repubs.

Wasn't that because he cheated on his wife or something? That might pull in some Democrat voters.
