The Half Hour News Hour

<embed width="425" height="350" src="http://www.youtube.com/v/YjIfaMwIFxU" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent"></embed>

Could be pretty funny. First airing this Sunday (2/18) night 10pm Eastern. And I make the argument for this not being moved to TV talk based on the content of the show.

A mod can add this to the existing thread if they so choose.

A few thoughts,

Like Air America this seems to be more for propaganda purposes than audience demand. So unless someone is willing to loose money on the deal I don't see it lasting.

Isn't this going to be on Fox News? That's just messed up.

I'm not sure which was worse, the 3 person "studio audience" laughter during the desk segment or the canned laughter during the taped piece. Production quality was pretty low, but as a pilot that's to be expected.

Seems kind of unprofessional for a news network to run a comedy show.

Oh, wait... It's Fox, so it's not like it's a real news net.

Nothing wrong with them leaning Right, but for their sake, I hope they take shots at everyone at least some of the time, like the Daily Show does.

I hope it's funny, unlike TDS of late.

Pretty much.

I listened to an interview with the creator of this show -- Joel Surnow (co-creator of 24) -- on a radio program yesterday and I definitely plan on tuning in.

The show is not funny. The forced addition of a laugh track confirms this.

Colbert makes up for the lack of TDS funny.

Why? They don't have the right to broadcast a comedy show on their network?

I suppose they do--if they want to be a bigger joke than they are now.

You know what's funny about Barack Obama? His initials are B.O.! Like body odor! Har, har.

I believe he pretty clearly was saying they did not have the legal right. You nailed him to a cross on that one!!!

Or he was questioning the logic in weaving comedy into a news network.

Quite the contrary -- I think the concern is that adding another comedy show could cannibalize the audience from The O'Reilly Report and Hannity & Colmes.

Didn't MTV have a show called The Half Hour Comedy Hour?

With MTV handling Comedy and Fox handling News, I can't wait for Nickelodeon's Half Hour Horror Hour.

I Love Lucy had a better laugh track in the 50's.

My favorite review so far:

Bob Cesca: "Step Away From The Jokes, Fox News, Before You Hurt Yourself."

Politics aside, that was just insultingly mind-numbingly stupid.

I guess they know their audience.

The show should do a segment showing a bunch of liberals freaking out about the idea of the show. That would be amusing.

I just don't think it's funny. The Marion Barry punchline is old and weak. If they come up with some quality jokes, then I'll be more......fair and balanced.

Just because someone has the right to do something doesn't make it a good decision.

Marion Barry jokes never get old but the quality of this looked more like a college show than a pro show. The laugh track has to go. Also, this shouldn't be on a news channel. Why can't we just get news? Even HN these days is all gossip crap.
