Terror-Free Oil Gas Station Slated for Omaha.

Group Plans 'Terror Free' Gas Station in Omaha
Tuesday, January 23, 2007
AP

Jan. 22: The country's first Terror-Free Oil gas station under construction in Omaha, Neb.

OMAHA, Neb. The Terror-Free Oil Initiative is planning to open the nation's first "terror free" gas station in Omaha.

The Florida-based group claims U.S. dollars used to purchase gas made from Middle East oil funds terrorism. It urges Americans to only buy oil products that originate from countries that do not support terrorism.

The Terror-Free Oil station in west Omaha will sell gas from oil companies that do not do business in the Middle East. Signs calling for the use of non-Middle Eastern oil were up at the station today.

Spokesman Joe Kaufman says the station will open Feb. 1, with a grand opening scheduled for Feb. 12.

Other Terror-Free Oil stations are planned.

Interesting. I can't wait to see the lines of people in the cold waiting for their Terror-Free gasoline.

Oh. I thought they were going to have protective walls or something to prevent terrorists from bombing the place.

I'm dumb.

So it sells American, Norwegian, and Mexican oil?

I'm sure there are some that would debate if those countries support terrorism

It's a nice idea, but I doubt it will work. People are going to buy gas at the lowest price. That's the determining factor.

Probably, but some people might out of principle. For example, I won't buy gas from citgo, but since there are plenty of other places around, it's not really a big stand.

My Dad used to boycott Exxon gas because of the Valdez spill. He would often buy from the Mobil station instead. When they merged, he continued to buy gas from Mobil. I tried to point out that he was putting money in the pockets of Exxon, but he wouldn't have any of it.

Indeed. If someone were to open an "All Terror Oil" station, but sell for 75% of the price of the "Terror-Free Oil" station, we'd see how many Americans really support the war on terror.

Kwik Fill stations in PA, NY and OH only sell North American gas AFAIK. Old news. They do it without the ridiculous name.

I prefer "Non-Stop Terror Oil", personally.

Given that the U.S. consumes so much gas that there isn't actually enough "terror-free" gas to supply the country, all buying "terror free" gas does is make other pumps slightly more terror-rich, with the same net "terror oil" flowing into the country. Consuming less gas would be good, but just buying "terror free" gas is pointless.

This is basically in the same ballpark as "freedom" fries.

Actually, "Kwik Fill" is kind of ridiculous.
