I will soon be a class c felon in Washington State

Here is a new twist on an old law. Gambling in illegal at Bushwood....and I never slice! Actually, it is currently a gross misdemeanor and is going to be a class c felony as of June 6th, I believe.

http://washingtonvotes.org/2006-SB-6613

It passed the Senate 44-0 and the House 93-5. Keep in mind that it is perfectly legal to have poker games at your own home so long as there is not a rake (money made by the house). Also, there are tribal casinos as well as state licensed card houses in the state. A conviction would be the same as armed robbery.

I wrote to my 2 house members and 1 senator from my district. The senator got back with me quickly via email and told me that it had to be done to ensure the tribal casinos could not start internet gambling. Effectively, if it is allowed by the state, it is allowed in the tribal compacts. Tribes have one loophole that allows them to have slot machines that card houses can't because of a law written for them by a past govenor that classifies them as lottery machines.

Obviously, I don't care if Tribes get an internet gambling site, and it appears to stink as an excuse, because it was already against the law. My senator told me it was to show that WA is serious about not letting it be legal.

One of the house members actually took the time to call me at my office. I have met him a time or two in an official capacity, but I would doubt he remembers me. Anyway, as it turns out he is on the Commerce committee and is one of the 5 members who voted against it. He said that the legislature is tired of the tribes having a virtual monopoly on gaming and that they are taking money away from lottery revenues that the state needs. I pointed out that they are a monopoly because they are effectively the only ones allowed to have casinos. Turned out he agreed and was more in favor of opening it all up to the free market. I will definately vote for him again.

I have thought of turning myself in. The real bitch of it is, I would definately have to plead guilty and let them know that I am most definately going to repeat this offense if they don't lock me up. Society shouldn't have to put up with a convicted felon who admits that he will reoffend walking the streets.

If you apply yourself, you'll be a B class felon in no time.

Don't drop the soap in the shower.

Er, I guess you can drop it.

Just don't bend over to pick it up.

Sorry ..... I have no respect for you as a felon until you show up on America's Most Wanted.
