Is dvdtalk a liberal place?

There are ads for brokeback crap all over the place. It is offensive to look at. Maybe if the conservatives spoke up, the owners would pull the offensive advertising.

Hi. I'm a conservative. Are you offended by homosexuals? Because I'm not, and I'm certainly not offended by fictional depictions of it. What's theharm?

Are you serious? And by the way I'm a conservative and we aren't ALL gay haters.

I haven't seen any of these ads but I'm assuming they're ads for the DVD? On a DVD site? What's offensive about that?

We probably have more conservatives than liberals here at DVD Talk and we have a large minority of libertarians too, such as myself. But our conservatives are not going to back you on this. They tend to believe in such things as free speech (including free commercial speech) and most (probably nearly all) are not at all anti-gay as you are.

If you are offended, you are free to look elsewhere.

Perhaps this is the wrong forum for you.

Not because of "political views" but simply because this is a film and art discussion forum. Not a politics discussion forum.

You can't be serious. Ads for a critically acclaimed movie on a dvd site? I'm assuming you don't approve of homosexuality. That's certainly your right, but how does that fit in with movie ads? Does that mean that every time you don't complain about ads for horror movies that you approve of murder and mayhem? Is that really less offensive to you?

(Fear.com--now that was an offensive ad, just because it locked up my computer every time it came up!)

And here I thought it was a gripe about me posting my audio from my Air America Radio reports (see: http://www.dvdtalk.com/bits/index.html)

Or maybe that we added Gay Porn Reviews
http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/list....l+Male+Reviews

How about the fact that this week's newsletter had an ad for Ironweed Progressive Film Club:
http://www.dvdtalk.com/newsletter/040403.html

Nope... You're gripe is with an ad for a major motion picture that was nominated for several oscars, winning BEST DIRECTOR and BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAYS

Bet you've never even seen the movie. If so you'd realize it has NOTHING to do with being liberal or conservative. It's about 2 people who want to be together but can't.

But to answer your questions. Me personally, the editor of the site, am I liberal.. Damn right I am. But is the site? No. With over 50 writers and 10 mods on this forum from all walks of life and with VERY different political views we aren't liberal or conservative, we're a blend. Also if you've EVER stopped in to the Politics Forum http://forum.dvdtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=47 you'll see ALL Sort of views there.

In what world is this offensive!?!
<img src="http://www.dvdtalk.com/images/brokeback.jpg">

Damn woman, perhaps you should re-think your strong homophobia.

Most Americans are offended by homosexuals. Since you're the owner you might want to know that.

It is not homophobia or some term the liberals want to use. It is about family values and a love for God. Most people want a safe place to shop.

So homophobia is only a term that's used by Liberals?

Funniest thing I read in a while.

Last I checked, this was a capitalist society...for this site to be maintained it costs money, thus, advertising is needed. If you don't like it, don't buy it! And knock it off with the rhetoric, you're making all conservatives look like nutjobs...thanks a lot!

You may disagree with homosexual behaviour, but that doesn't mean a movie about two gay men can't have redeemable qualities. Just like a movie about a murderer can have a very truthful message. (eg. Dead Man Walking)

Yeah, you're making me feel guilty for saying it's SummerWind's right to be homophobic if she wants to (even though I do think people can say and think what they want, prejudice is never easy to take).

I think there's barely a person here who does not think Geoff does a wonderful job. Geoff's success in building this place where we can all get together and enjoy each others' company and argue but with predominantly mutual respect or at least tolerance speaks for itself.

"Family values" are a good thing, no matter what the family. Gays form families too and your homophobia (this libertarian has no trouble using the "liberal" term) goes against any decent family values. Also, many people love god and are not homophobes.

A "safe place"? Yeah, I risk my life every time I log on here.

I think this site would suit your needs:

Summer Wind: Did you also complain to your local paper when they ran Brokeback Mountain advertisements every day (or week)?

Are you boycotting the following websites for including Brokeback Mountain related information?

List of Websites with Brokeback Mountain information

www.amazon.com
www.commonsensemedia.com
www.apple.com
www.yahoo.com
www.imdb.com
www.nytimes.com
www.msn.com
www.cbsnews.com
www.cnn.com
www.foxnews.com

And the roughly 32 million other websites that carry information on the movie?

What about TV stations that ran ads for the film?

Are you also evading the people that contributed to the $165MM this movie has made worldwide?

Are you boycotting retailers such as Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Target, Circuit City, and K-Mart, and Border's who carry and prominently display this movie?

What about the thousands of libraries that have this book and/or movie?

I truly shudder to think what you would think of other movies advertised here and on other websites.

Suggestions For Disturbing Movies

Mind-Twisting Films - Name some movies that blow away your mind...

What's the most "troubling" DVD you own?

DVDTalk isn't "liberal" or "conservative" but it does reward artistic-expression. Again, this is a site about art*. Discussion about <s>art</s> film is best done with an open mind. I'm glad to know that most people here, be they liberal, conservative, libertarian, or Numanoid, can openly discuss things like that.

* Quiet down, not "art" the guy. Shh. Stop snickering.
