Slobodan Milosevic dies in jail

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - Former Yugoslav President
Slobodan Milosevic has died, the UN tribunal said on Saturday.

"Milosevic was found lifeless on his bed in his cell at the
United Nations detention unit," the tribunal said in a statement.

"The guard immediately alerted the detention unit officer in command and the medical officer. The latter confirmed that Slobodan Milosevic was dead."

The tribunal said the Dutch police and a Dutch coroner were called in and started an inquiry. A full autopsy and toxicological examination have been ordered. Milosevic's family has been informed, it added.

Milosevic, 64, suffered a heart condition and high blood pressure which had repeatedly interrupted his trial in the Hague on charges of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes during the bloody disintegration of Yugoslavia in the 1990s.

It seems hard to believe he had been on trial for 4 years. Will they continue with the trial now that he has died?

They probably will continue with the trial, just to be sure he is "convicted" for historical records.

I would imagine Saddam is going to meet the same fate. Extend the trial for so long, hoping the man dies. You have to wonder with so much evidence, why a conviction is so difficult and why the dragged-out trials of people like Milo and Hussein.

I wonder if any of the others are being tried?

I'm speaking of Croats & Bosnian Muslims.

Perhaps they didn't commit any atrocities.

Kind of sucks; I wanted him to live to see himself being convicted.

Here's a partial list of indictees, many of whom are Croats and Muslims:

A disproportionate number of Bosnian Serbs were indicted, which can either indicate bias, or simply that the Bosnian Serbs had control of the Yugoslavian command structure and military apparatus, which gave them a greater opportunity to commit attrocities.

Ah, surely it's not bias.

I wish I could find he report of the Canadian General who was in command in Bosnia. It was not so biased.

Our actions against Serbia was a carryover from the Cold War - 'those dirty old commies.'

We conveniently forgot who aided the allies in WWII - and who was in bed with the Nazis.

BTW: I'm not defending Milosevic.

I really believe Milosevic 'died' in prison - who know, kinda like Jack Ruby 'died' in prison.

Well, I wish he had survived to see his case through to a verdict, but I'm not shedding too many tears over the loss besides that.
