Republicans: Could you support Cheney-Bush 2008?

Is it even possible for the current VP to run as president in 2008, and have the current president be the VP's running mate in the next election as well?

I thought you meant Cheney would run for President and Jeb would be the VP on the ticket.

I don't know but I definitely think it would fail.

No support for that from me.

I don't believe a president who has used up both his terms can run as VP. And I know that Cheney has no interest in running for the big spot in 2008.

Bush can't run as VP and Cheney can't win. And forget Jeb. 12 years of Bushes in the last 20 is more than enough for America.

This would be a way to stay in power for another 8 years (if it doesn't violate a constitutional limitation (like a man can only serve up to 10 years as president, no matter what, so would that disqualify a 2-term president from seeking the office of VP because he would need to be eligible to serve all 4 years as president should the president die early in his term).

I'll switch party line in order to help out Hillary in the Dem primary.

I don't see that anywhere in the 22nd amendment.

"No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once."

So, in theory, Bush could run as VP.

It's always good to read Justice Otto's opinions.

How about Cheney/Bush vs. Clinton/Clinton?

McCain will be 72 in 2008. Don't see it happening.

I'm a Dem and I might consider voting for Rudy. I'd advise Rep. to choose him over Jeb in 2008

Didn't he already say that he has no interest in running the next time around?

Nope. 12th amendment:

"But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States."

But Bush isn't constitutionally ineligible to the office of the President, since according to my Dem friends, as of today, he has only been elected to the office of the President once.

I don't know if that's a good ticket but it sounds like something that would be delicious with chicken.
