the mandate

so i guess what the American people were telling their gov't (and the rest of the world) that what they appreciated from the last four years and what they want more of is

-higher deficets
-more spending
-more goverment oversight of their personal lives (and via the Patriot act, their thoughts and expressions)
-more American soldiers used in more nation building efforts
-more secrecy in policy making
-more excuses (it's Clintons fault, its a hard job. etc., etc)

am i missing anything?

-more whining.
-more hearing about how Bush is Hitler.
-more complaints about how people could be so stupid as to actually vote for Bush

-more goverment oversight of their personal lives (and via the Patriot act, their thoughts and expressions)
There are shiny hats that people can wear to prevent the govt. into having oversight into people's thoughts.

What they are saying is that despite the crap that Bush has pulled on this country, the Democrats are not a viable governing option. That speaks volumes.

Absolutely, the fact that he pisses off the right people is just a bonus(and an entertaining one at that).

I think what they were saying is that they want a President whose stance's on the issues are clear and consistent, and who takes the radical Muslim threat seriously.

i, sincerly, appreciate the wit of the response.
but honestly- what were the concrete achievments of his first term, or what were the things that this president initiated that you could look at and say "ok, this is what we want more of..."

less government? security?
it was on his watch that that our country had its first major lapse of security.
so you don't agree with that, and say "what about the embassy bombings or the Cole?"
why not ask the same thing of this president
"when you came into office we had already been the succsessful target of several devastating terrorist attacks abroad...why wasn't internal security a priority for you then?
why wasn't hunting them down and killing them a priority when you first got into office?

he ran in 2000 with comments ridiculing and deriding the Clintonian concept of effecting change thru nation building, and yet that (and the Patriot Act) will most likely be seen as the most epic, historical endevours of his (first) term.
throw in fiscal irresponsibility (charging and spending) and what integral policy relationship does this President have to the man that ran in 2000?

his base didn't throw him out for flip flopping on those criteria, on the contrary they endorsed him for it.

that's a mandate to continue, to me.

pity not everyone can be as gracious as Kerry has been. You sure have a good way of losing here, basically America is stupid because people don't think like you do, huh?

Contempt for the voting majority is a major blind-spot that prevents you from seeing a different side....

Bush doesn't have to be the greatest president to ever hold office... he just has to show that he would be better than his opponent. Bush painted an optimistic view of the future, Kerry was all doom and gloom.

Kerry spent plenty of time on his military record, and how terrible of a job Bush had done. But he didn't articulate how and why his plans would be better. What little Kerry DID say, wasn't very uplifting, positive, and hopeful.

I think people would rather vote for someone who has a plan and offers hope that his plans will make things better, rather than for someone who is doom and gloom and who gives the impression that even if he can impliment his plans, things won't be positive.

I didn't care for either candidate, but I can see why more people would vote for Bush.

no.
im just asking honest questions and getting overwhelmingly glib responses.

the state of the union after four years is his record.
there were policies he instituted that weren't there four yrs ago.
by virtue of not only his relection, but a more decisive victory than when he was originally elected, this constitues an endorsment of these policies he initiated or continued- yea or nay?

We haven't been hit by terrorists in the three years since 9/11 so that's good enough for me.
