I always hated this attack on any criticism of Bush's execution of the war.

We will the right be "against the troop" if they are critical of Kerry's execution of the war?

I was just thinking about this on the dirve in today. It will be real interesting to see how the right handles critics of Kerry on issues like this.

(if he wins)

Yes. I'm behind both our troops and the commander in chief, especially when it comes to situations like Iraq. Whoever is there, I trust he knows more about the situation than I do and that he's making the best decision he can at the time. I may not agree 100% with it, but I will support the decision and the men affected by it.

What's more... if Kerry gets some other country to commit troops, I won't accuse that country's leader of being a puppet. How 'bout that!

Since Kerry (representing the left) didn't support the troops in votes in the U. S. Senate - don't you think turn-about is fair play?

I'll support them no matter who's Commander in Chief.

D_G thanks

C-man I think we should be critical of obvious mistakes without the other side claiming you are against the troops or not supporting the troops (as you just did ).

But now that the right has made this a standard response to any critic of Bush's execution, it creates a contradiction for them in attacking Kerry (if he wins)

Kerry voted against a supplemental to fund the troops.

Some might conclude that means he doesn't support the troops.

Of course, he's frequently changed his position on Iraq (sometimes daily) so often, it's difficult to know where he stands.

First off - we haven't been officially "at war" since World War II.

I would hope the people of this country support the troops no matter who is in office.

Also, there is a difference between disagreement with the President and going out to protest and actively undermine the whole war.

We know everyone will actually support the troops.

The question is will criticizm of Kerry (if he wins) be classified as "against the troops"?

IE: will the left and right switch sides on this attack

There is nothing wrong with informed criticism and intelligent protest. The raving lunatic stuff only hurts us.

Kerry really had no other choice.

If he hadn't come out stronger against the war, much of the Democratic base would not have been happy. You've got to keep your base happy - and fired up.

I wasn't talking about Kerry. What Kerry has done is fine. I was referring to the "Bush is Hitler" and "We support our troops when they kill their officers" idiots.

If Kerry becomes President, nothing is really going to change in Iraq. We're committed. He knows that. He knows it would be a geo-political disaster if we were to pull out.

This again? When Congress votes to beat the crap out of somebody (authorizes use of funds) and funds the force, we are at war and they are mincing words, but paying the bills.

"If it quacks like a duck . . .
etc.

I voted for Bush, and if Kerry wins, I hope he will be successful in his stated goal or restoring our alliances and perception throughout the world and that he can successfully make Americans here, and abroad, safe. I also hope he can pay down the deficit without raising taxes on the middle and lower classes.

I don't think he can do either, but if he wins, I hope he can.

Is that what you were asking?

I don't think they will support our new Secretary of Defense, Jane Fonda, but Republicans will always support the troops.

However, I would not be suprised to see higher ups who were in Vietnam decide they don't want to serve under a commander in chief who has shown so much disdain for them.

Just my opinion.

I would hope they do. I'm a Democrat and have supported the troops under Bush's administration.

Jane Fonda & the return of Madeline Albright as Secretary of State - you can't beat that combination.

Now it'll be a complete coup if Kerry can get Janet Reno to come out of retirement to once again grace the nation withe her presence as Attorney General.
