Does John Kerry, who has been critical of Bush's pronunciation of words, have a clue how to pronounce the word "idea?"

It's not a very difficult word. And there's no friggin' "R" in it. 3 times today in separate speeches he kept saying "Ideer". The first time I thought he was just saying it sarcastically for the audience but the most recent was in a sit-down interview with Tom Brokaw.

Yeah, this isn't going to change any votes and it's a stupid issue. But I mention it because of how critical people are about Bush in this manner. It irritates me (the issue, not the pronunciation). Plus I'm bored.

Move on. I will too.

Phew.

If I'm willing to give Bush a pass on "nucular", I'm sure I can also say that "idear" is a regional thing. (my grandfather says 'idear').

Not a big deal either way. I'm sure some of our dem posters will agree (now that Kerry does the same thing).

If he's a Boston boy, he says "idear". And "Pizzer" instead of "Pizza". And when he says he wants to "Hit the Middle East", he means visit a famous local bar.

Yet "wicked pissa" is "ah"-sounding. Weehyid!

About as silly as criticizing Bush on the whole "Nuclear" thing (Hell, I mispronounced it the same way for years). I've always felt that people who made a big deal about that were kind of pathetic (not the op, because he admits it's a "stupid issue")

I can't believe we wasted space on the internets to even discuss this.

When has Kerry criticized Bush's pronunciation?

That was a joke, not a "criticism."

But "idear" is an actual dialect variation. You've never heard this before? "Warshington," "Cuber" for Cuba, "sofer" for sofa, etc. Some parts of the country speak "a" as "er," and have for decades. That's a natural dialect.

Contrast this with the bullshit claims that "nucular" is the result of a dialect different that, strangely, doesn't manifest itself in any other word.

That said, this is a non-issue on both sides. Kerry's "idear" is natural and well-documented. Bush's "nukeyuler" is annoying but not important. End of story.
