Just Imagine For A Moment...

That Gore had actually gotten into office-

and we find ourselves right where we are now
-having suffered a devastating, demoralizing attack
-fighting two (seperate) wars on two seperate fronts
-engaged in the most ambitious bit of 'nation building' since the end of WWII
-condemnation, or at the very least apathy, from some of most prominet our allies (sorry, no offense Poland)
-the price of gas over $2 a gallon
-surplus squandered, and deficets for the forseeable future

do you think the right/republicans would have made hay with any of this in the election?
do you think they would have been voted in, in a landslide?
or do you think people would still be effectively cowed when that current administration suggested the danger in 'changing horses in mid-stream'?

i may be simple minded, but to me these are the big differences i see w/ the state of the nation re: 2004 compared to 2000

just think: someone actually had the cojones to assault us and inflicted serious injury
i could just see the partisan mantra all season "if only the republicans were in the white house then, they wouldn't have had the balls to do it because they know what they would get in return"

Just a note:

I don't think 9/11 devastated or demoralized the US - if anything it brought resolve to the nation the likes of which haven't been seen in generations.

Anyway, to answer your question, I don't think it would ever come to the outright hatred coming from a good portion of the ABB crowd if the roles were reversed.

Maybe for the first 6 months or so. After that it was pretty much business as usual.

It was great to hear Giuliani head-thwap the harpies on the View saying Gore would have retreated 4 times by now.

We do know that the republican challenger to Roosevelt did not make hay about letting the German offensive of the Battle of The Bulge cost American lives becuase of the CinC's incompetence.
