Please save the overheated rhetoric for another thread. Just vote in the poll and leave it at that, ok?

I fully expect my candidate to lose, so worrying about what happens when he does would be foolish.

I'm very concerned whether he wins or not. Things are not going well at all in this country.

If Walt Brown loses the election, I have very little hope for the future of the country.

Does it tell you anything that the Socialist Party's Presidential and Vice Presidential nominees are from Oregon and Vermont?

Only somewhat... I think Kerry is the wrong candidate at the wrong time but even if he's elected (provided congress doesn't flip as well ) I'm not too concerned and I can actually see some possible benefits to him winning. If congress changes hands too though I'd like to change my vote to VERY

Somewhat off the topic question: If Kerry is elected, will he return his presidential salary to the treasury? After all, he hardly needs it. He would become the richest president (by far) in the history of the country.

It would be an interesting gesture but I doubt it would happen.

I'm not very concerned at all. We live in a two party dictatorship. Nothing will change.

If we survived 8 years of Clinton, we would survive Kerry. I am still VERY concerned though.

Of course, I don't really have a candidate.

The two parties have rigged the system so much they've made it virtually impossible for a candidate from a third party ro run and win the presidency.

The 'first past the post', single member district type of electoral laws we have for the national legislature pretty much ensures a two party system. These laws predate any existing American political party.

Gerrymandering and debate lock-out doesn't help either.

No they don't. I was merely pointing out that a system was already in place that almost guarantees a two-party system, before the parties were even formed. Once they were, they got rid of the 'almost'.

Hell, in WV the laws are so tough for a party to get on the ballot that I long suspected the Democrats were trying to rig it for a 'one-party' system.

Third party members (mainly Libertarians) - stop whining about the system?

If you want to call the shots, integrate one of the two major parties and take over from the inside.

If not, console yourself to being a insignificant and meaningless third party.

Party realignment does happen in the US, but it's a slow and painful process. I accept that.

SOMEWHAT concerned. I believe Kerry's policies on taxes, health care, and terrorism are potentially dangerous. But really not much will change if he wins. He still won't have free reign to do whatever he wants. Of course, no president does without Congress. I laugh when people actually believe all these promises Kerry is making.

I fully believe that Ross Perot fucked up the possibility of a relevant third party singlehandedly.
