Take it to the bank: Jesse Ventura endorses Kerry

http://www.kstp.com/article/stories/S3582.html?cat=1

ST. PAUL - Former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura has officially endorsed Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry.

The announcement was made during a 30-minute news conference at the State Office Building. The former Minnesota Governor was there, but did not make any comments.

Just days ago, Ventura had said that he did not plan to support Kerry or President Bush this election year.

Also at the news conference was former Maine Gov. Angus King, who was the only other third-party governor during Ventura's years in office. He said Ventura changed his mind and decided to endorse Kerry.

Organizers didn't even know Ventura was going to show up until the news conference started. He told reporters who followed him out to his car afterward that he'll be doing interviews in Los Angeles.

Ventura supports Kerry. Schwarzeneggar supports Bush.

Looks like it's up to Carl Weathers to make the swing vote.

Hmmm...so far no substantive responses.

Does "the body" still have some clout in Minn? I would think so.

Not so sure, he would have lost soundly if he ran for reelection.
That Kerry has to visit a state the has voted dem for a long time indicates that he is in trouble.

Another celeb/politico gives an endorsement... what sort of response do you think it deserves?

Better yet... doesn't a substantive response require something of substance to be stated first

I'm sure Thor could think of something. Something along the lines of:

That's it, I'm voting for __________

On what basis would you think so? I don't have any idea, personally, but would guess by your answer you know something.

I'm pretty shocked the Ventura would endorse Kerry. I would guess if he had to pick someone that it would be Bush. Not earth shattering, but certainly not helpful to Bush in a state that the Republicans want to paint as a swing state. Minn has increasingly moved toward the Republican side of the spectrum over the last 15-20 years. A once solidly Democratic fortress has erroded into a very close vote, but a popular former governor like Ventura going for Kerry probably turned at least a few heads.

I think the impact of this decision will be decided in the aggregate way in which the people whom are likely to be pro-Ventura would view the totality of the situation. Differences and preferences can be offset to the realistic, although changing, circumstances as time progresses. People should take heed and take such endorsements with just a bit of skepticism, as the objective of such may just be personal and not meant as public proposition.

I think he's still popular as a personality but I'm not so sure it's as a political personality

http://www.highbeam.com/library/doc0...yword=&teaser=
Only 29 percent of those surveyed in the Feb. 2-6 poll of 1,027 likely November voters said they thought Ventura "deserves to be reelected," while 63 percent said "someone new deserves a chance."
http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp...nguage=printer
And that's why, his critics contend, a Minneapolis Star Tribune poll in early March found that 43 percent of residents approved of Ventura's job performance and 49 disapproved.

Don't get me wrong whenever I've heard Jesse speak I've been very impressed and more often than not agree w/ what he has to say (for example read the articles above, esp the 2nd one, on his explaination of the numbers). However when it comes to endorsements if anyone relies on other people to pick who they are voting for well I'm not really sure what to say...

WOOOooooooo!! [starts to do the little Ric Flair dance].

In other news, Superman, who is known for fighting for truth, justice, and the American way endorses President Bush.

Meanwhile, Mr. Fantastic, known for his ability of elongating and flip-flopping his body supports Senator John Kerry.

If Jesse the Body is endorsing Kerry, Kerry must be the bad guy! Throughout his WWF commentary career he was always behind Bobby "the Brain" Heenan, Jimmy Hart, and other heels!

Mean Gene: Oh my God, the referee is knocked out, and Big John Kerry has brought in the bottle of ketchup!

Jesse: I love it, Mean Gene! And, as usual, the Bushster has no idea what's going on!

Mean Gene: Sensational Teresa passed him the ketchup, that evil witch! She should be banned from ringside!

Jesse: Watch what you say! She's a lady, Okerlund.

Mean Gene: She's a no-good snake in the grass! And now, Kerry has blinded Bush with that toxic ketchup! Wake up, ref!

Jesse: Ha! We're gonna have a new champ, Mean Gene! And there's nothing all the Bushamaniacs can do about it!
