Hypothetical terrorist scenario

If some terrorists took an American or two hostage in Iraq, in the days before the election, and made a video stating they would kill them if Bush won. How would you vote and what do you think the outcome will be? Should the media even cover an event such as this?

I for some reason wouldn't be surpised to see this happen after Ken Bigley was taken hostage and the media coverage that followed it.

I wouldn't change my vote, whether it was for Bush, Kerry, Nader, Perot or the Tooth Fairy. There is no "guilt by association" if a terrorist commits an act of their own choosing, even if they claim it is due to my decision as to for whom to vote. Futher, changing my vote because of their threat only empowers them and encourages similar behavior in the future.

The only correct answer to your question is to ignore their threatened action and vote as you normally would.

I'll tell you this much... it wouldn't take more than an hour or two before Terryt McAuliffe held a press conference and accused Karl Rove of orchestrating the hostage situation. After which our "unbiased media" *cough, cough* would be all over it, because (of course) the seriousness of the charge would demand that it be thoroughly investigated.

I tend to believe that efforts like this would backfire in the US, and that the terrorist leaders are savvy enough to realize this.

I also have no doubt that if this happened and Bush still won, the Kerry campaign would immediately demand a new vote because of the unfair influence from the terrorists.

It makes it easier to fight the war on terror when the terrorists themselves give you advice about who will do a better job of kicking their asses.

Does it matter? Everytime the media jumped all over "US soldier killed in Iraq", they're doing Kerry a favor.

but what if the terrorists said not to vote for someone KNOWING that you would do the opposite?!?!

This sort of behavior shouldn't effect your voting in either direction.

I'd vote for the guy I thought was most likely to kill most/all the terrorists. Very simple

Do you want the answer that most Europeans would give? I doubt you're going to find that here. We don't give in that easily.

Yes. Kvrdave didn't have a post about hippies so I had to post it here because it asked for a couple of hostages.
Fixed.
