Hypernormalization

This explains everything about the Middle East, the birth of suicide bombers, Libya, Syria, and everything in between. I don't agree with all his points, but this is well done. Also, it always blows me away to see just how normal the ME looks in old footage.

His Century of Self is amazing if you want to see the birth of public relations in politics.

Re: Hypernormalization

I managed to get about 12 minutes in before I gave up. I take issue with at least one of his assumptions, that the world hasn't changed in forty years.

So far, the international bankers who are taking over the world aren't a Jewish cabal, not this time around.

Re: Hypernormalization

Pretty much nails both current political parties. Liberals don't want participate in change. They just want to "experience" it. And Republicans are giving them the material for that "experience".

That's why nothing is getting done. They both feed off each other, and to the naive public, it looks like they are enemies.

I don't recall the movie saying it was. First 10 minutes were the toughest for me. 30 minutes in I was very engaged.

Re: Hypernormalization

Adam Curtis's films are always worth a look. I'll be checking this one out soon.

Re: Hypernormalization

Not yet, Dave, but I have it, as well as The Trap: What Happened to Our Dream of Freedom?. The Power of Nightmares was great and Bitter Lake was good, if a bit disorganized, I thought.
Have you seen Century of the Self?

Re: Hypernormalization

Yeah, several times. The first time I watched it I decided I'd watch it annually just so I don't soften the impact of it. I loved it, but it also feeds in nicely to my old background of psychology. Shit, until you mentioned The Trap, I'd forgotten about it. I'll go watch it. I'm interested to hear your thoughts on Hyper and Century

Re: Hypernormalization

Curtis is unquestionably an excellent documentarian/propagandist. Let me know how you like The Trap. I think it'll be a while before I watch the remainder of his films (long story). I'm sure Curtis will assemble a damning autopsy on the Trump election.

Re: Hypernormalization

Hypernormalization seemed to be that. I'll do that. Hopefully get to watch it this week. I'll fake an illness and send myself home, hopefully.
