So Bowling for Columbine....that sucked!

Here's the summary. Guns aren't the problem, just look at Canada. Video games aren't the problem, just look at Japan. You know what is the problem? The "culture of fear." That's the problem and I have devoted 4 minutes to show it. Now let's go mess with Charlton Heston....even though we already showed that guns aren't the problem.

Re: So Bowling for Columbine....that sucked!

I thought it was a rather thought-provoking film. My take-away was that some other cultures are more successful at promoting a sense of inclusion and common well-being among the populace than ours, which often tends more toward "every man for himself". Reference the current health care debate and related shenanigans.

I agree. Now let's go get Charlton Heston!

And that is the big problem with Michael Moore. He doesn't seem to know the point his film makes. He knows what he wants it to make, so he goes after Charlton Heston. But did he even watch his film? What a maroon.

It was really just odd, because for the most part, I tended to agree with the film's points. But then they did some hippie crap to get K-mart to quit selling ammo (yea, we've saved the world...despite the fact that we have already pointed out that guns are not the problem), or they did some other disjointed thing. And MM never actually does anything to develop "the problem" which is the culture of fear, other than walk down a street with a dude that wrote a book about it.

I've thought about watching other MM shows, but I expect they are pretty much the same. And after getting so many accolades for a movie where he doesn't even see the point he made, by people who must have just wanted to cheer him for the point they thought he thought he made, I decided it would just annoy me.

His politics are fine. And they are reflected in his movie. His ability to reason does not shine through, unfortunately.

Actually, we're starting a new business model. You now have to pay $10 for each thread you start, and that $10 includes unlimited replies within the thread for the OP. Everyone else has to pay $1 per reply they make to any existing thread. But you get a free hunting rifle if you create $100 worth of threads. In Kvrdave's case, if he doesn't spend $2000 a month in posts/replies, he gets sent a new horse.

I agree with the "culture of fear". Look at our the media had us all terrified of swine flu. They needed a new fear since global warming is old hat. What happened to killer bees? Alligators in the sewers?

Moore's documentaries should not be taken too seriously. I find it hard to believe that people in Canada are so crime free that locking your doors is an unknown concept.

When your nearest neighbor is 17 kilometers away, that's not so hard to believe.
