It was 72 here today.

Already it's back up to 73 today and expected to be 76 by Monday of next week. 50s overnight. Well, it was outstanding, rare, and glorious while it lasted!

Yup. Our house got about 8 inches but I don't think we ever lost power, at least according to our alarm system. Fortunately, this was my view when all that mess was going on:

Flying home tonight though.

No issues in Houston right now, but I have PTSD thinking about the state wide power failure last February. I hope to God that doesn't happen again. Those were a miserable 3 days without power. It was below 40 in my home

My home got to 39 degrees inside during our wonderful, welcomed cold snap a few weeks ago, and it was perfect. During the day, the interior temperture maxed out at about 49 or 50 degrees. I'd welcome that type of interior temperature year-round, and you complain for a mere 3 days? Wow, totally different perspectives. You can always bundle up, but you can't cool off when it's too hot. Without resorting to artificial, loud, and expensive air conditioning systems.

Re: Winter 2022!

It is dry once again in January in CA and now they say maybe in late Jan or early Feb rain might return

Another depressing dry year with wildfires

Re: Winter 2022!

I wish I could trade places. We're getting another storm this weekend. It's going to start snowing Sunday night, and turn into rain early Monday. So when we get up early on Monday, we're going to have a crapload of heavy, wet slush to remove.

Did all my food shopping today to avoid the mayhem shopping lines tomorrow. Forecast predicts we get snow smacked in NYC on Sunday.

To warm in SoCal the last few days. I had to go to the mountains to get some cooler weather.

Yes, we had our standard 2-week winter and now it's back to 80 degrees during the day and 60 degrees at night. Last night with the damn Santa Winds it didn't get to below 68 degrees outside. Fuck that...

It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. A lot of the snow melted, leaving about 1/2"of slush - thanks to rain and unusually warm overnight temperatures. Not fun to shovel because that shit is heavy.

Re: Winter 2022!

We got slammed with about 2' of snow today, double what was forecast and more snow than I have seen in one dumping in my 47 years. It's still coming down as I write. I love snow, and it's very pretty outside, but of all days! Today my mom had a very important medical appointment, and we had to cancel. I shovelled the driveway as best I could and backed out onto the street a bit to see if it was feasible, but I decided it was just too risky. We would have gotten stuck somewhere with the RWD Tesla, even with winter tires. This is one of the rare occasions when a 4WD SUV would have come in handy.
You can see how much snow it is on the picnic table on the back porch. I don't even want to know how much Buffalo got. andicus, cultshock, Coral: you guys in the Niagara region were expected to get even more. What is it looking like there?

Re: Winter 2022!

Norm is right as Toronto got a huge snowstorm. Iíll be going outside for the third time to clear all of the snow in my driveway.

Re: Winter 2022!

Got pounded with snow here as well. The snow drifts were as high as 4 feet.

Is it spring yet?

Re: Winter 2022!

Seems like he's just walking with skis on instead of cross-country skiing.
Don't think he's improving much on just walking in boots. He'd be better off with snowshoes.

I think Toronto may have gotten more than us if you got two feet (the snow on your back deck looks higher than it does on ours ). We got maybe slightly over a foot here in south Niagara, and across the border in Buffalo I think it was about the same. Luckily I have the day off today, and the kids' school was cancelled, so we are all just staying safe and warm inside today, I'd hate to be out there driving in this.

Re: Winter 2022!

I normally woudn't care about a snowstorm, but my nephew is in quarantine in Costa Rica with Covid, and he left his car with me so I have to shovel it. Crap...

That said, you guys in TO have it worse than us in MTL.

Always makes me think about this great commercial from about a decade ago:

Yeah, I lived in Florida briefly and deeply missed the changing seasons, it just seemed so unnatural (insert Florida joke here).
