Iíve been a forum member almost 22yrs. What have I done with my life?

I think this is the longest relationship I’ve ever had.

Now I’m depressed.

It's about 22 years since I first read DVDTalk, and in 2 months, it will be 22 years since my first post. My DVDTalk membership is old enough to legally drink!

I've gotten (re)married, moved across the entire country, gotten very gray...

Wait, you asked what had YOU done. Well, tell us!

I just realized that I've been a member here only two months longer than I've been married. Luckily both relationships still seem ok.

I wonder how many people came for the coupons and stayed because they had no life?

Damn we’re old.

DVDTalk must have some of the oldest members on average online.

Re: Iíve been a forum member almost 22yrs. What have I done with my life?

I am shocked that my join date is 05-24-05, for me that is long time to have been a fairly active member of a site like this one, time flies when you are having fun.

I do remember that it took forever for me to get my post count up as I was more of lurker for a bit, and went through a phase where most of my posts were generated by the last movie/tv movie/tv show type thread responses. I could drop the name of a film or show I watched and move on, but over the past several years I have definitely been posting more frequently and am not so shy about interacting with/responding to other members posts as I used to be.

Re: Iíve been a forum member almost 22yrs. What have I done with my life?

The passage of time is a weird thing.

I've been here a hair over twenty-one years. Gulp!

It's like if I had joined in 1969 and was still posting here in 1990. It's almost unthinkable that this place has been around THAT long.

With the 1969 to 1990 analogy, we would have been discussing the Vietnam War, Chappaquiddick, the cancellation of Star Trek, the Moon landing, Nixon's reelection, the Fall of Saigon, Watergate, that new movie coming out called Star Wars, the energy crisis, Iran hostages, Star Trek The Motion Picture, Reagan's election, the assassination attempt against Reagan, the end of the Star Wars trilogy, Reagan's reelection, the Challenger explosion, Top Gun, Chernobyl, Iran-Contra, Star Trek: The Next Generation, the Gulf War... it's almost unthinkable that an internet forum would last that long.

Doesn't seem like 2000 to 2021 has covered that much history, but when I started posting here the World Trade Center was still standing.

Itís funny, it seems like a lifetime ago when my dad died. Its been over 20 years. Iíve been a member of this site since before he died. I grew up and have a wife and three kids he never got to meet. I graduated college, went through several career changes, and bought 2 houses in that time. Really the only constant in all that time is my daily visits to DVDTalk.

Re: Iíve been a forum member almost 22yrs. What have I done with my life?

Not worthy of starting a new thread over, but any tales of how you ended up here?

Sometime in 1999, I had bid on a DVD on eBay (IIRC, it was A Bug's Life) and lost the auction. I received an email a bit later - i guess eBay was a lot looser to get bidder info back then - telling me that I could do better price-wise than what I'd bid, and directed me to the DVD Bargains forum over here. From there it was a feeding frenzy on coupons. Speaking of which, what the name of the place that used to include bags of popcorn with your movie orders?

Oh, I also lurked for a bit before signing up - probably six months or so.
