Don't think there's any point to announcing deaths here unless the person is on someone's list.

I think there's another thread for celebrity deaths in general.

Maybe these minor or smaller celebrities wanted to be mentioned without creating their own separate thread with zero replies.

Jesus, he was ancient. To think that Lloyd was already 30 years old when WWII began boggles the mind.

He wasn't quite that old. He was born in 1914, so he would have been 24 at the beginning of WWII. By the end of WWII he would have been right at 30. It's amazing that there are still some WWII vets still alive. I think the last WWI vet died in 2012.

Re: Dead pool 2021

We're both wrong, depending on when you classify the start of the War. I think when WWII began in the US he was 27.

But I think there will still be some WWII vets alive in the late 2030s or even the 2040s. Assuming the very lucky few live to 115 to 120 years old.

WWII began before the United States entered it. It is a "world war" after all. The date I go by is September 1, 1939. Lloyd was born in November 1914, so he would have not turned 25 until a few months after the war began.

I actually debated this with my high school history teacher once. On a test he asked "Select the time period in which WWII occurred. The answers were: A: the 1920's, B: the 1930's, C: the 1940's, or D: the 1950's. I know he was going for the answer to be "C", but "B" would also be correct. I argued that if he was going to do a Scan Tron test where only one answer can be correct, then he needed to make sure that there shouldn't be two possible answers for a question.

Yeah, there could very well be WWII vets still alive in the 2040's. There were a number of those involved in the war that were under 18 years of age when they entered the armed forces in those days.

On a side note, there are still technically civilian casaulties from WWI to this day and there will be for many decades to come as there are still hundreds of thousands of buried bombs that were dropped in Europe that ended up buried and are yet to be uncovered. French farmers uncover them all the time when the are plowing and digging up their fields. Some farms actually have a place at the end of their property where they can place these undetonated bombs for pick up and disposal. Every once in a while someone will decide to tinker with them instead and then they go off.

Yes, indeed. I knew what you were going for, but just wanted to throw in the mix his age on 12-7-41.

And, unexploded bombs are nothing to mess with. Sad to realize that yes, there are still casualties of war related to this every year. I wonder how the US Dept. of vital statistics classifies these unfotunate deaths. As in, do the officially listed casualties of WWI / II / Korea / Vietnam go up each year?

Dr. Auschlander's demise pulls movieguru into a virtual tie atop the standings.... a tie he loses because of the new tiebreaker he designed for this year.

LOL. If I kept the same tiebreaker rule from last year, I would have just edged you out by about four points. It's going to be a tight race to the finish line!! We have gotten so good at this we might actually get half out list crossed of by the end of June. I'll have to think of a wacky new rule for next years to change everyone's strategy.

Yeah, I'm not sure where they draw the line or where they should on weather new deaths count toward the totals or not. I think if one wasn't born during the conflict, then they probably shouldn't count. There are those that were alive in Hirosema and Nagasaki that are still dying of cancer that could possibly be connected to the radiation from the bombs. It could be reasonable to say that they should count toward the total sum.

Here's an interesting article on the bombs that are still being uncovered in a rural area in France:

The First World War bombs that are still killing people in France - World News - Mirror Online

Agreed, although I'm probably coasting on my 2020 success right now.... my 2021 list kept all those who survived last year and included only enough new folks at the bottom to replace them. If I had to do that right now, here are the seven I would add to replace my 2021 deaders:

Al Jaffee
Jeff Bridges
Roger Angell
Mort Sahl
Larry Storch
Barbara Barrie
Bob Cousy or Sandra O'Connor (I'm not sure either of them will make it to 2022 to be honest)
