We're both wrong, depending on when you classify the start of the War. I think when WWII began in the US he was 27.
But I think there will still be some WWII vets alive in the late 2030s or even the 2040s. Assuming the very lucky few live to 115 to 120 years old.

I actually debated this with my high school history teacher once. On a test he asked "Select the time period in which WWII occurred. The answers were: A: the 1920's, B: the 1930's, C: the 1940's, or D: the 1950's. I know he was going for the answer to be "C", but "B" would also be correct. I argued that if he was going to do a Scan Tron test where only one answer can be correct, then he needed to make sure that there shouldn't be two possible answers for a question.
Yeah, there could very well be WWII vets still alive in the 2040's. There were a number of those involved in the war that were under 18 years of age when they entered the armed forces in those days.
On a side note, there are still technically civilian casaulties from WWI to this day and there will be for many decades to come as there are still hundreds of thousands of buried bombs that were dropped in Europe that ended up buried and are yet to be uncovered. French farmers uncover them all the time when the are plowing and digging up their fields. Some farms actually have a place at the end of their property where they can place these undetonated bombs for pick up and disposal. Every once in a while someone will decide to tinker with them instead and then they go off.
