If someone isn’t happy with the state of the Political forum, you’re better off either contributing your point of view to the discussion there or ignoring the subforum altogether.

And similarly, resentments or whatever that started in Politics have no business spilling over onto the rest of the forum. That goes for both “sides”.

This certainly isn’t the thread for arguments about the Politics forum regardless. Any further discussion along these lines should be taken to Feedback.

7 people issued $1,000 tickets for violation of stay-at-home order, Santa Cruz police say

https://abc7.com/covid-19-santa-cruz...tions/6095692/
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -- Seven people were issued $1,000 tickets in Santa Cruz for allegedly violating California's stay-at-home order.

The police chief in Santa Cruz said the seven individuals came to the coastal city from Fremont.

A photo from Chief Andrew Mills shows the alleged violators outside of a 7-Eleven store, where he said they were buying drinks.

"If you are not from Santa Cruz and you put our community at risk, you will get a ticket," he said on Twitter.

The state's shelter-in-place order limits Californians' travel to only the essentials -- such as food, car repairs or caring for a family member.

The order is in place due to the novel coronavirus pandemic and is intended to promote physical distancing.

Gov. Gavin Newsom on Friday applauded Californians distancing efforts so far, but urged residents to continue staying at home and sheltering to flatten the curve even further.

Awesome. More frivolous tickets to turn people into criminals with bench warrants and revoked drivers licenses when they can’t afford to pay.

Fucking morons Why would you travel together from Fremont to Santa Cruz as a group to 7-11 of all places to buy alcohol?

I hope it's $1,000 each for those idiots.

The only alcohol they sell at 7-11 is beer. The article didn't specify what kind of drink they were buying. I doubt they drove all the way to Santa Cruz to go to a 7-11. I'd like to know why the Sheriff thinks people in Santa Cruz are safer than people in Fremont.

I question the legality and constitutionality of "Stay at home" citations.

No constitutional right is absolute if it threatens public health.

What city was this in? The police force there must have a rinky-dink operation.

(Should have called for helicopter support. Put out spike stripes on all pathways leading away from the beach. Set up road blocks on sidewalks in the vicinity of the crime.)

Not clear, but the Police Chief is below explaining the results for protesting the citations during this "Stay at home".

I’d say it’s not a matter of one community being safer than another, but people traveling to another community an hour away for a non-essential purpose.

And if you follow the rules and stay at home, why not do some gardening and grow you own food.

Out of food and you do need to drive to the store with your child?

You better have a car seat!

I would bet the citation isn’t for “failing to stay at home” but rather “endangering the public” or something of that ilk.

Though I could be wrong. It looks like the Springfield mayor’s recent executive order allows police to issue $500 citations for failing to follow Governor Pritzker’s executive order ... https://www.springfield.il.us/Depart...ashx?imgid=840

Oh fuck.

Adam Carolla summed it up perfectly recently: We are at the mercy of our dumbest people.

We need to stay home, but our dumbest people have bad information and bad instincts. If there’s too many dumb people it will keep spreading.

That is NOT the rap anthem of Coronavirus. The real champion is that one that’s “Ohh bitch, you got Coronavirus” over and over. That shit is great.

Well the biggest issue is everyone thinks everyone else doing or thinking something different than they are - are the dumb people. That's just human nature. And this isn't going to do anything to stop it.

Re: COVID-19 NON-POLITICAL Thread

I wish the bandana guy would have strangled this woman with his face cover.

Face masks: Not everyone is wearing them as required in Los Angeles

https://abc7.com/health/not-everyone...geles/6097828/

SHERMAN OAKS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- It's no longer optional in Los Angeles. Shoppers and employees at still-open businesses like grocery stores must wear face coverings.

Most people have been following the new rules, aimed to help contain the spread of coronavirus.

But there are still a few who aren't.

Ryan Jordan, who works as a physician assistant, was upset by what she saw when she went to a checkout line at a local supermarket. While everyone she saw shopping was wearing a mask, some weren't when they were in the checkout line.

"There were four men in front of me. One was wearing a bandanna across his face and the other three weren't wearing any kind of mask or any kind of protective gear at all," she said.

Concerned that the order wasn't being enforced, Jordan said she went to speak to a manager.

"She kind of just looked at me like, not much I can do about it," she said.

She was eventually told by the general manager that her concerns would be passed along to the corporate office.

Those who violate the order can be charged with a misdemeanor, risking fines or possibly even jail time.

Re: COVID-19 NON-POLITICAL Thread

They should make masks readily available at these so mentioned places if they want to enforce the above said laws.

I am home and have nothing to make one mask so making many masks wouldn't be happening either.

I just stay home and have everything delivered.

I don't know about the laws in Michigan but I do know that your next door neighbor can't come over and vice-a-versa but during severe weather I think that get's thrown out the widow(especially with everything else during a tornado).

Re: COVID-19 NON-POLITICAL Thread

Some dude at Circle K had a face mask covering 80% of his face. Like you wear when you’re robbing the place. The cashiers were not happy and I think asked him to not wear it in the store again.
