Re: COVID-19 NON-POLITICAL Thread

Thanks for the reminder. It's now been a little over 6 months since my 2nd shot. A few days over. So I made an appointment to get my Pfizer booster at Walmart tomorrow morning. Might as well get it done.

Re: COVID-19 NON-POLITICAL Thread

Just got my booster moments ago at Walmart. We'll see how I feel later tonight or tomorrow. But, after my initial 2 shots the worst thing I had was a really sore arm and I anticipate the same here.

My spawn is getting the first shot on Sunday, then the next one in a month, about two weeks before the holiday traveling begins.
I'll probably end up getting my booster in January.

Like you, with the first two shots, just a sore arm. With the booster I did have mild body aches.

Re: COVID-19 NON-POLITICAL Thread

It took a few days for people to get comfortable or get around to it but yesterday we gave 15 Covid 5-11 vaccines and today our schedule is just PACKED with nurse visits for Covid shots (as well as a full schedule). Probably due to the fact that school is out today. It's wonderful to see even if it's so busy it's stressing out my Medical Assistants.

James Taylor just postponed a January 2022 European concert tour due to the COVID issues going there.

Just got boosted today! Planning nothing for tomorrow in case I feel like shit.

I was wondering about Europe and Germany - why are their rates suddenly increasing - aren't they mostly vaxxed? Do they now have crazy anti-vaxxers like we do?

Well, at least he didn't say *demon*-spawn. Credit must be given where credit is due.

And, relevant to this thread, I received my Moderna booster shot exactly a week ago, had sore arm and malaise for a day, and felt fine henceforth. About half as strong a reaction as the 2nd Moderna dose, which squares with my expectatations, as that 3rd dose was only 1/2 the strength of the 2nd.

Got my 9 year old daughter her 1st shot Friday. No issues for her. Once she gets her 2nd in 3 weeks, we are all vaccinated!

Moderna booster really fucked me up today (more so than my 2nd shot). Really sore/achy all over, which was precipitated last night by shivers and shakes.
It's clearing up now, but man, it was rough, and I was out of commission all day!

I got my Moderna booster on Sun and late Sun night/Mon morning I couldn't move my arm or even get up off the couch for the whole night. Still not as bad as my 2nd dose.

I really hope I don't have to deal with this shit every time I get a booster. Fucking willfully ignorant morons are ruining it for everyone else.

Re: COVID-19 NON-POLITICAL Thread

Some potentially bad news about COVID-19 and white-tailed deer:

https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsan...lobal-pandemic

In September of last year, computer models suggested SARS-CoV-2 could easily bind to and enter the deer's cells. A recent survey of white-tailed deer in the Northeast and Midwest found that 40% of them had antibodies against SARS-CoV-2.

Now veterinarians at Pennsylvania State University have found active SARS-CoV-2 infections in at least 30% of deer tested across Iowa during 2020. Their study, published online last week, suggests that white-tailed deer could become what's known as a reservoir for SARS-CoV-2. That is, the animals could carry the virus indefinitely and spread it back to humans periodically.

If that's the case, it would essentially dash any hopes of eliminating or eradicating the virus in the U.S. — and therefore from the world — says veterinary virologist Suresh Kuchipudi at Penn State, who co-led the study.

"If the virus has opportunities to find an alternate host besides humans, which we would call a reservoir, that will create a safe haven where the virus can continue to circulate even if the entire human population becomes immune," he says. "And so it becomes more and more complicated to manage or even eradicate the virus."

Well... that was a great fear, that the virus would become endemic and epizootic. Looks like we really are fucked, unless the COVID-19 virus mutates to a less infectious / transmissible form in these deer. Or we'll need to start a mass eradication of our deer... And many would balk at that, but gladly say that "old" people should die from COVID instead!

How virulent these interspecies variants of COVID are remains to be seen. We can hope the natural reservoir remains low.

Germany's vaccination rate is only 67%, and the areas where it is spreading have even lower vax rates, so this is the expected result unfortunately.

I got my moderna booster yesterday at noon. Hurt going in,which was surprising. Arm is slightly sore now at 10:00 the next morning. Seems to be affecting me about the same as my first shot. Second one left me droopy all day. So far this is much better.

I've resigned myself to this being a regular occurance, along with the mask.

Re: COVID-19 NON-POLITICAL Thread

As we approach colder weather and the booster season...and that the majority of members on this forum are men...it's a good idea to get your Testosterone levels checked if you haven't done so recently. Low T levels negatively impact the immune system and data I've seen correlates low T with the body's ability to recover from Covid. Also, both the virus and the vaccines appear to potentially negatively impact T levels so it might be worth doing after getting a booster. And if it is low, there are steps you can take to increase it to within the normal range.

We hear about Vitamin D, Zinc, etc. but T levels don't seem to be discussed as another area to consider as a precautionary measure. Just my .02.

Besides your doctor, there are mail-order test kits that use saliva, so not invasive. I did a test a few times in the past year. Post Covid, post vaccine and recently. There was a material difference.

I got a Moderna booster last Saturday (I got the J&J shot originally). Other than some arm soreness, zero issues - not even fatigue (which the J&J shot gave me for about 24 hours).
