An increasing amount of thought that the virus was here and spreading around the world earlier than previously thought.
I got sick two days after Christmas. I had the antibody test. Negative. But now Iím starting to have my doubts about the test.

So really there are only two possibilities :

1) You were one of the very first people in the entire country to contract COVID-19, you did so before it was endemic and without foreign travel AND you also had a faulty Antibody test
Or
2) You had one of the literally tens of thousands of other viral and bacterial illnesses that sweep the globe each and every winter.

Re: COVID-19 NON-POLITICAL Thread

Well this morning wife and I decided to order breakfast pickup from our favorite place so I was ordering while we were driving there and the website kept having problems and by the time we got there it hadn't even gone through yet.

When we pulled up I saw people going in and out like it was any other day (no masks anywhere) so we looked in and they had the tables spread apart, half capacity, and everything served in "to go" containers. But otherwise it was nice for a "back to normal" time even if it was probably not exactly legal. Or maybe it is. Hard to keep up.

I'm sure this applies to pretty much everywhere, but I walked into a 7/11 today and self service drinks have been suspended indefinitely. Same goes for any gas station that offers it.

Interesting. Aren't the sodas no touch service for the fountain when you fill your cup?

Both.

I went to Wendyís a few weeks ago and the touch screen Coke machine with like 100 flavors was turned off. 7-11 and Arco use the old school fountain drink machine and itís been turned off as well. You can only get your drink from behind the counter for fast food places.

Not all of them have levers. Some have push buttons. Also Freestyle machines are all touch.

Speaking of gas stations, we should go back to gas station attendants. One or two people handling all the pumps.

Re: COVID-19 NON-POLITICAL Thread

I wonder how much Costco's mask policy is hurting its business? Stopped in today for the first time in roughly six weeks. I was expecting a line outside and tons of people. There was no line and plenty of parking (a normal weekend day in normal times fills up the parking lot).

It could just be the effect of people staying at home, but Target and Home Depot were packed today. I wouldn't be surprised if stores in more conservative areas are seeing a sizable drop in business due to the rule.

Seeing everyone in masks, though, was pretty reassuring, although I realize the benefit they provide is still unknown.

The supermarket and Target were noticeably emptier today. The roads were packed and I'm hearing the beaches were packed as well. Plenty of TP and hand sanitizer. I think people now have other things to do and are easing back on trying to be clean now that everything is "open and back to normal." This allowed us to buy products that the damned hoarders were jumping on the past 2 months. We will be ready for the fall spike in cases.

Pretty much. Gas station pumps were gross before this whole thing started.

Thanks for the response. We called the on call nurse yesterday and she said that she's seen it a lot lately. Some 72 hr bug going around and yeah if she still has a temp either today (Sunday) or Monday they want to see her. We have a well appointment on Tuesday anyways but of course we won't bring her in for that if she has a temp within 24 hours of the appointment. Her fever was much better today with a Tmax of about 101. Her appetite has increased basically back to normal and her activity is pretty normal.

And now that you mention the roseola her cheeks did look a little red a few days ago. We thought it was because she was playing outside but it could be an atypical roseola rash. We haven't seen the patchy rashes yet.

I might have missed it but what happened with that one test you sent out? It's just weird that she picked up a virus with us being in quarantine. I wonder how contagious roseola if that is what it is.

That's a great trick to get a urine sample. We don't think it's a UTI since she hasn't had any problems with peeing. She's not struggling or crying in pain when she goes. No flank tenderness (do kids experience that with UTI's?) and the fever is rather inconsistent.

You might enjoy this story that happened with my first kid. She got her first UTI at about 2 yo, it was very obvious since she was screaming bloody murder when she went. We were very lucky to be able get her to go for the cx so they didn't have to cath her. Of course the doc prescribes abx and asks me what on if I have an idea of what to use. I tell him why don't we try bactrim. I know it's kind of weak sauce for a UTI but it wasn't pyelo (no fever) so I figure start small with her first round. He agrees and prescribes it. After about a day the crying stops when she has to go and everything is better until about 2 or 3 days later when she develops a fever and was getting worse. I was freaking out (first kid too) because I thought oh no I just gave my kid pyelo because I chose the wrong abx and I let this UTI turn into something worse and we haven't been treating it for several days now. So we get her seen ASAP and during the physical exam what do they find? I tell you what I've never been so happy to see such a red ugly looking sore throat in my life. Kids? Amiright? She's since had to have her tonsils out.

Sorry, I said I was going to leave it alone ... but I had to use that one Tanman -- nothing personal.
That day? Maybe not every single scenario

Here are some examples:

B. High-risk exposure to person who has a confirmed case of COVID-19; employee is asymptomatic.
HIGH
∑ Contact PCP
∑ Contact Employee Health
∑ Employee must self-quarantine for 14 days
∑ Employee must obtain clearance from Employee Health to return to work.

I. Employee has no symptoms or illness, but the employee has been in close contact with a person on campus with unconfirmed symptoms or illness.
LOW
∑ Employee should self-monitor for symptoms and contact employee health or PCP if symptoms develop.
∑ Employee should contact PCP or Employee Health, as needed.
∑ No medical recommendation to limit work; CAN work.

K. Employee has no symptoms or illness, but the employee has been in close contact with an asymptomatic person who has returned from international travel or a cruise.
LOW
∑ Employee should self-monitor, limit exposure to others, contact medical provider if symptoms occur.
∑ No medical recommendation to limit work; CAN work

Actually Oregon suspended that law due to the virus and you can now pump your own gas anywhere in the state. (I think the station has final say on what service they want to offer though).

Roseola rash is fine pink dots on chest back abdomen and face that appears about a day after 48-72 hours of high fever resolves. Itís not subtle. Most people who think they are allergic to Penicillin because they had a rash while taking it in reality probably had Roseola instead.
Kids usually cry when voiding with UTIs but not always.
I often see this weird tonsillitis illness with sky high fevers, seen it a few times since this thing started. Strep negative with big swollen pus-covered tonsils and high fevers. I donít know what causes it. The literature says you arenít supposed to treat it. I usually will with Augmentin and just warn the parents that if it is actually Mononucleosis they might break out in a horrible rash, in which case stop the antibiotic at once. The rash isnít painful or itchy, it isnít an allergy. It just looks bad. Of course if you want to know for sure you can always do a mono spot, CBC and EBV panel.

Two other factors. I was in an emergency room right before Christmas, and it was the sickest I’ve ever been down with anything. Three solid weeks. I went a 48 hour period without sleeping my body was so inflamed.

Oh and my wife teaches predominantly Vietnamese children and they travel back and forth somewhat regularly.

I learned yesterday that two families in our neighborhood tested positive. One was my daughter’s soccer coach a few years ago.
