I was a member of David Lynch's paysite in the early 2000s and he used to stop by the board there from time to time.

If you were paying, he better fucking stop by. It would be kinda cool to get banned by David Lynch.

Aaron Sorkin used to post in the West Wing forums on the Television WithOut Pity site.

There is a ton of adult actors on Adult DVD Talk forums.

William Shatner has admitted to lurking on 4chan's /tv/ section but not posting.

YEARS ago on Usenet, I remember a thread on the DS9 board concerning a change in Kira's uniform that showed off her figure more. Someone said "Ron Moore must think we are idiots" and accused him of sexually pandering to fans (which was nothing compared to 7 of 9 a few years later). Moore posted that Nana Visitor had requested a change to something more comfortable.

IIRC Rush Limbaugh used to be very active on the Compuserve forums. We're talking early 90s.

Re: Have you ever been on a message board/website that had a celebrity posting on it?

Back in the 1991-1995 era of the CompuServe Comics and Animation forum, I exchanged a lot of messages with the likes of Neil Gaiman, Peter David, Kurt Busiek, Mark Waid, Colleen Doran, Howard Chaykin, Steven Grant, and others (many of the Malibu Ultraverse and the Valiant team as well). It was a great time for comics fans to interact with the pros.

My own forum had one of the creators of Steven's Universe visit and interact with members.

Confirmed it was him when he discussed doing so on his official Twitter account.

Re: Have you ever been on a message board/website that had a celebrity posting on it?

I remember stumbling onto Alex Proyas' own forum when I was a teenager. I was kinda starstruck. Just because there was no Twitter, and you never really got to converse with someone like that on a real level.

One of my favorite musical artists, Sage Francis, converses on his own forum (though I remember him coming close to taking it down a couple years ago).

Kevin Smith seems like the first director who was really grounded and communicated with his fans non-stop.

And, yes, with Twitter, you can say anything to anyone. And I think they read a lot of it. I've tweeted (usually just musings that I found clever enough to follow up with) to a few well-known filmmakers and gotten likes/responses.

It's kind of a unique approach to fandom, as most filmmakers seem to keep their distance. There's probably a well-established teaching somewhere that says you should keep your distance.

Comic creators occasionally appear on the Marvel Masterworks message board.

Joe Straczynski, while not a director, created and wrote most of Babylon 5 and was regularly interacting with fans online as far back as 1991 or so. I think he was probably the first Hollywood pro who had a real continuing online presence as a representative of a show or film.

Didn't she even post pictures of her and note cards (or something) with forum members names on them?

That's pretty wild. She went from being a porn star to being a movie actress in a country where the leading lady doesn't even kiss on camera.

I never got my Sunny Leone picture. I think the promotion ended, and we never saw her again.

Back in 2002-2003, Robert Kirkman was a regular poster on the Savage Dragon forum. He was constantly pumping his comic Battle Pope. I eventually checked out his stuff, including ordering the first issue of a little zombie comic that I was later able to pay off my credit card by selling.

Cuban was on AVS? I haven't visited - much less posted in - that forum in years, but I remember around the turn of the century some guy named Bob Utne was always pissing off everybody. He was a celebrity in his own right.

Former MLB pitcher Dan Plesac posted on Yahoo finance boards a few years back. I noticed his username was his real name backwards, and let's be honest who else but the real Dan Plesac would do that? I messaged him and he said I "got him" so I told him I was a fan and that was that. Kinda cool.

John Mayer posted on The Gear Page for a time, until he was figured out and stopped. I believe that Joe Bonamossa also posts on a musicians forum as well.
