Ruby Chocolate coming to the United States

Don't get too excited it is not a new stripper.

I don't know about this which might look like chocolate covered in Pepto Bismal.

The world’s largest chocolate market is finally getting a taste of the ruby range, the first new type in more than 80 years.
Switzerland’s Barry Callebaut AG, the top maker of bulk chocolates, is rolling out its ruby breakthrough in the U.S. almost two years after announcing the discovery. The new type of chocolate, with its pinkish hue, expanded the industry’s color palette beyond just dark, milk and white, and was the first new natural shade added since Nestle SA started making white bars in the 1930s.

Ruby has already made a splash in Asia, where Nestle was the first to adopt the invention, adding it to its KitKat bars starting in Japan. Barry Callebaut has also launched the chocolate in Europe, Australia and New Zealand and trials in the U.S. proved successful, said Bas Smit, global vice president of marketing for the Zurich-based firm, the No. 1 cocoa processor.

Re: Ruby Chocolate coming to the United States

At least it's actually made from cacao beans. White "chocolate" is the furthest you can get from any real chocolate.

I'd give it a try.

Looks good. In a Kit Kat? No. But I'd try it if Whole Foods or whoever gets it.

What's that fruit/nut looking thing in the first pic?

Think that's the cocoa bean.

I've been eating weird colored/flavored Kit Kats from Japan for years, so why not? At least these ones are more naturally colored compared to the Japanese Kit Kats.

Yeah, the taste's the thing. Wikipedia's description (sour yet sweet, with little to no cocoa flavor) is not helping me at all. If I ever see them in a store I'll give it a shot to be sure.

Re: Ruby Chocolate coming to the United States

No, sir. We don't like it.

I should preface by saying I made the mistake of ordering the chocolate by mail... in May/June... in Texas.
So when the box showed up, I put it straight in the fridge... but it was too late. There is no semblance of four distinct "bars" you would expect from a non-melted Kit Kat.
And the extreme melting then cooling down may have utterly changed the flavor... but I doubt it.

They just taste... not great. At first it's ok, but the aftertaste is... not for me. My wife and child agree.

So now I have 9 of these melted monstrosities left, and I don't know what to do with them.

It appears to also contain theobromine, which is toxic to dogs.

My first thought is that it would have that strawberry yogurt kind of taste (Iím thinking those yogurt covered raisins). Iím guessing it doesnít taste like that though.
