Inadvertent Eye Test

Otters:

Below is a scan of an optometrist appointment reminder card, and apparently there's some controversy as to what's actually written here. Rather than point out the point that's causing a heated debate on my Facebook page, I'll just ask y'all:

What day of the week does this appointment fall on? My female FB friends all tend to give one answer, my male FB friends tend to give another.

Re: Inadvertent Eye Test

Friday.

Don't know what the controversy is, but if it's a question of whether that's a 4 or a 6... 4/21 would be on a Sunday, so it's not that one.

Re: Inadvertent Eye Test

Looks like Friday, June 21st to me. I could see where it might look like a 4 but since April is behind us...

It's a really shitty 6, but it looks like June 21st, which is a Friday.

Re: Inadvertent Eye Test

All of my women-friends see "6"
All of my guy-friends see "4"

When I got it, I saw a "4" and couldn't understand why they would schedule me for an appointment in the past, on a Sunday. But even with the chicks chiming-in claiming that they see a "6", and me understanding that a "6" makes more sense than a "4", and even seeing how someone trained to read their own sloppy handwriting might mistake that digit for a "6".... it still consistently looks like a "4" to me.

I honestly think this is a chick thing. I've worked with women whose handwriting was all "pretty", with the letters all being sized identically and all of them rounded to make them look like O's..... rendering whatever they wrote completely illegible EXCEPT to themselves, and apparently to other ladies.

Re: Inadvertent Eye Test

The left vertical and the horizontal makes your brain think it's a 4 because it squares off nicely, but the horizontal doesn't go past the right vertical line, so to me, that's a tell-tale sign. Plus it looks like they tried to make a loop, which makes it seem like a 6. Definitely looks like Doctor's handwriting.

No, next Friday.

Either way, Dr. Jarvod Long needs a receptionist with better penmanship.

Re: Inadvertent Eye Test

See how round and loopy that "9" in "19" is? It's obviously written by a vivacious, extroverted female. Using that round, loopy large-middle zone template of her handwriting, it would seem like a "6" should also be large and round and loopy. This is why I immediately said "4-21-19", and didn't even bother to look up the fact that 4-21 fell on a Sunday. So, then, logic says that it must be 6-21, but the girl's handwriting is at odds with how she *should* produce a round and loopy "6." So, obviously she wrote the "6" unlike her usual "6" and the card and / or some other physical impediment caused her to produce a very un-ladylike "6"

Damn! What a trick question!!

Re: Inadvertent Eye Test

I'm a male and it looks like a '4', but checking the calendar, I'd realize it was a '6'. Also, the person making the appointment should know what it is anyway.

Same. Drafting class in high school taught me to print clearly and yes even a rough sketch of something today warrants an 'NTS' in the corner.

I saw it as a 4 first and then saw how it could be a shitty 6. Then figured it must be 6 since April has passed.

At first blush it looks like a “4”.

Couple of things...

Upon closer examination, it comes off as a six because people generall write an open-topped four with two separate strokes.

On the other hand, it doesn’t look like a six because the “loop” on the six is above the baseline of the other letters.

If she (assuming a she) prints the zip code like that on a card or letter, it’s probably going to take longer to reach its destination.

Re: Inadvertent Eye Test

I see either a shitty looking "4" or a shitty looking "6" about equally. But considering that 4/21 was a Sunday, I'm going to take a wild guess and say it's a "6".

Re: Inadvertent Eye Test

Yeah, if this thread had been started a month ago, then there would be need to question if it really was a 4 or not.

I can see how it's a six, but I would never have guessed it if April wasn't over already.

Re: Inadvertent Eye Test

At first glance it looks like a 4 but if you analyze it for a few seconds, you can see the the writer attempted to make a loop for the 6 but just didn't make it wide or round enough. It actually looks like those funny test answers where you can only answer "true" or "false" and the test taker intentionally writes in a way where the word can look like either.
