Re: eBay Rants
This really sucks because I have been slowly selling off old books and movies I no longer wanted. It was better than getting pennies for them at a trade-in store.
This will definitely curb my overall buying as well. I used to take a chance and buy various movies, music and books because I know I could get rid of them and at least get back close to what I paid for them if I didn't want them any more.
Ugh. I still have hundreds of movies and books I wanted to eventually watch/read and then sell. I don't know what to do now.

I'm not sure how you distinguish "friend" payments on Venmo, Cash App, etc. PayPal has the F&F option. But this will curtail selling on other formats as well including Facebook where PayPal is common for buyer protection. People probably won't realize what has happened until they get that 1099 in 2023.

Yeah, I don't see how the venmo stuff would be taxable, as it's usually people paying you back for stuff like dinner, concert or movie tickets, etc.
Obviously people use it to sell stuff, but how do you differentiate each and every transaction from paying you back versus a service?

Damn, I was planning to start selling a bunch of higher priced vintage toys on ebay. Between this and the recent USPS fuckery, I'm not sure if this is good timing.

Re: eBay Rants
You can't anymore. Before Managed Payments, you were required to have Paypal as one if the payment options. I'm sure it's the same with managed payments.

Re: eBay Rants
My sales are up by over 50% every month this whole year. I have increased my inventory quite a bit since October of last year, so that accounts for some of it. I have items that cost anywhere from $10 to to $1300 on there, so when I sell a couple of higher dollar items in a month it skews my results a bit.

I've only sold once on Amazon and that was in 2003. I spent too much time listing 500 items and only ended up selling about 5 items most after months on there. It's too much hassle on there.
I guess it depends on what you are selling that may account for your decrease in sales. I pay extra on a lot of my listings to promote them. I noticed since I've been doing that last year, my sales increased dramatically.

A little off topic, but does anyone remember or ever buy/sell on Yahoo Auctions? I don't think they lasted more than a few years. I recall they were trying to compete directly against Ebay at the time. It seemed like more of a buyers' market on there as prices went for a bit less, but there were no final value fees if I remember correctly. I think they may have charged a ten cent listing fee or something like that, but nothing was charged for the value post sale which may have somewhat made up for the lower sales prices on their platform.

That's interesting. You can *pay* Ebay for it to skew its AI (?) algorithms positively in your favor... Like everything else, their game is rigged. They're not playing with a fair deck. Paying ebay a total of four (?) fees for every transaction: a "me first fee", a listing fee, a sales fee, a Paypal fee. Wow, that's fucked up, And what a damn gravy train for the bean counters at Ebay!

The one thing I don't like about promoted listings is that when you try and sort by lowest price to highest price or highest price to lowest price, the promoted listings can appear at random in between the sorted items which is a bit distracting.

Re: eBay Rants
Funny you mention this because according to eBay's new policy that started around May of this year, you most likely would not be able to sell those comics on their site anymore. A friend of mine just made me aware of this as he was trying to sell some Penthouse Comix that have some famous comic book artists in them and was unable to do so due to the new policy. This new policy was made to get rid of the adult section and the new rules make no fucking sense as to what is allowed to sell.
At eBay, we have policies to ensure our platform remains a trusted and inclusive environment for our global community of buyers and sellers. Although most adult-only items are prohibited, listings that show nudity are allowed in limited situations when they follow the guidelines below.
We're committed to preventing bias in the application of our policies. All forms of adult content that don't follow our policy will be removed. We'll review the content of the listing, images, and the category of the items to determine if it is allowed.
eBay defines nudity as showing any part of male or female genitalia, anus, or female breasts where the areola or nipple is visible. The following are also considered nudity:

Mashable did an article on how ridiculous this rule is it not only affects X o XXX material, but it affects unrated movies, works of art with nudity, comic books, sex toys among other things.

Why does eBay have this policy?
We want to make adult items available to those who wish to purchase them and can do so legally, while preventing those who do not wish to view or purchase these items from easily accessing them.Mashable did an article on how ridiculous this rule is it not only affects X o XXX material, but it affects unrated movies, works of art with nudity, comic books, sex toys among other things.

Re: eBay Rants
Unless ebay contacts you, don't take them down. So far, no one inside the company knows exactly how these new rules work. It's another stupid move by a company that has gotten too big and forgotten exactly what got them to that position.

Yeah, there's a lot of stuff that is explicit, but not out and out "pornographic."
While there are pornographic comics (like Fantagraphics' Eros line), there are also some that are sexually explicit but aren't strictly pornographic like Lost Girls, Faust, and Heavy Metal magazine.
The same could be said for movies. Some "unrated" movies, like Romance, 9 Songs, and In the Realm of the Senses, show explicit uncensored sex, but don't really fall into the realm of XXX pornography like Debbie Does Dallas.

They kept taking my listings of A Serbian Film down. I was going to try to list it in the Adult section but I wonder if it will be taken down there as well?
I also have around 10 Girls Gone Wild Blu-rays I wanted to unload on there. But those videos seem to be never sold on eBay which makes me wonder if they take them also down whenever they are put up for sale whether it is in the regular area or the Adult area???

Like I said before, their decision is ridiculous. Who are they protecting?

Re: eBay Rants

I guess I misunderstood. Those new rule changes change the entire definition of "Adult" so...yeah...I am confused.

So is there even an adult area anymore at all?
I would love a viable alternative to selling on eBay but there really isn't one for someone like me. I moved all my selling to Half.com when it first came out and quit selling almost completely on eBay. Then eBay bought the site, ripped up everything that was good about Half.com, neutered it and then finally shut the whole damn thing down. That really sucked. I haven't seen a decent alternative since. I loved Half.com.
Guess I will just get stuck with a lot of taxes until I either sell everything (which one my slow-ass schedule will take a decade) or some other place comes along.
