The Worst designed Airline seats ever?

Potentially coming soon to a budget airline near you? These are being demoed at some Airline fest in Germany. These are courtesy of Sam Chui's Twitter feed. He's a pretty popular Airline and Aviation Vlogger on YouTube.

Re: The Worst designed Airline seats ever?

As if the flying experience wasn't awful enough - not only are you dealing with those standing seats but the plans would be even more packed.

But - I'd like to see what the cost difference would be before writing it off completely. If it's 50% off the "regular" price and the flight was 2-3 hours maybe ---- maybe I'd give this a shot.

Re: The Worst designed Airline seats ever?

Doesn't even look like they're saving THAT much space.

Looks very uncomfortable, but if it saves me a considerable amount of money - I'd use it for 1-2 hour flights. I've stood on crowded trains for 1.5-2 hours, so this can't be any worse than that.

No, I would drive instead. If overseas, I'd take a ship.

Re: The Worst designed Airline seats ever?

My flights are usually 10-12 hours, but even if they weren't I would never, ever fly on a plane that had these seats. Is this an April Fool's joke?

Re: The Worst designed Airline seats ever?

If the seats were $20 then maybe I could do LA to Vegas or LA to SF. Anything longer than that would be insane.

I’ve been on roller coaster with seats like that.

Don't think I'd wanna (sorry, Norm) be in one of those if the plane hit turbulence.

That's got to be an April Fool's joke! If it isn't it ought to be. Just when I thought flying couldn't get any worse, this comes up. Soon, the greedy airlines will charge us for how much space we take up, and entire forego seats.

I thought basic economy was the start of this trend. It’s basically forcing people to pay more money for seatsvthat used to be standard.

More people. Same amount of toilets. Same amount of airline employees.

Different kinds of people on trains than airplanes, imo.

I seriously doubt the savings will be passed on that will make it worthwhile. This industry wants to treat its clients like cattle, and we got more proof. Carnival Airlines...only you can't eat and can't shit because there is only one toilet and the food is available for additional cost.

Re: The Worst designed Airline seats ever?

It's not an April Fool's joke. Standing seat concepts have been around for a long time. Here's a couple articles from last year:

Re: The Worst designed Airline seats ever?

Are they going to put people the sizes of Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, David Prowse, and Kenny Baker all in the same "standing seat"?

I notice that even the model can't look comfortable with both of his feet on his side of the divider.

I'd pay a couple of bucks to take a flight on those bicycle seats, but not a dollar more. What's next, a discounted fare for passengers willing to flap their arms out the windows to conserve fuel?

Good observation. I predict we’re just a few years away from being packed in face to feet like a slave ship.

as a long time dvdtalker.....those seats will not give enough support to my huge penis. I would hope first class would offer at least 10 inches of support.

This story and these seats has apparently made our local news here in Los Angeles. It will be on the 11pm news tonight.

How many Americans can stand on their own two feet for more than a few minutes. We are a country of sofas and large chairs. This will fly in Europe but in the US...probably never unless they start providing free SlimFast drinks.

Re: The Worst designed Airline seats ever?

Lets think this through... more people coming on the plane, longer loading and unloading times. Same amount of overhead, NO under seat storage, same number of bathrooms, increased weight of additional passengers, OBESITY in America, stupidity in the public, this is a disaster waiting to happen. FUCK that. I'd rather drive from MA to FL than subject myself to that claustrophobic torture device. Might be OK for a 90 second roller coaster ride but not good for any flight over an hour and any cost savings would be put off by the cluster fuck with checking a bag etc. I mean be real, they are going to need to legit have a "does it fit" test seat for passengers somewhere at the airport and what happens to people that dont fit and can't go on the trip they were booked on??

Re: The Worst designed Airline seats ever?

I guess those seats won't be for everyone. Pregnant women, people who walk with a cane, children, and passengers who are too tall to fit under the overhead bin will simply have to pay more for a premium seats.
