Now there will be only one Blockbuster left on the planet!

The location in Austraia is closing and it it leaves the Blockbuster located in Oregon as the only one left, it has been open for more than 20 years.

Just last month in the bottom of a drawer I found an old blockbuster card

Oh, the memories.

I prefered the local video stores over the corporate ones. Better selection and no restrictions on the types of movies available to rent.

Do they still have a corporate office? If so, what's that like/

It sounded like this is pretty much an independent store now. Local businesses make their Blockbuster merchandise. I can’t imagine they are reporting to anyone anymore.

Are the ones in Alaska gone now?

I heard that the Blockbusters in France had porn because it’s more socially acceptable there.

Re: Now there will be only one Blockbuster left on the planet!

Last time I rented anything from Blockbuster they tried to charge me for not rewinding my previous rental. I totally did rewind it and I told them to go ahead and close my account and they can take me to court for the $2. And that was that.

I still have my Blockbuster card in the very back of my wallet. It's amazing how times have changed. Used to, if you didn't get to Blockbuster by 6 pm, you would never get a new release movie. Now, thanks to all of the different streaming options, you can have all kinds of movies and TV shows at your fingertips.

Considering they have it in the “Family Movies” section ... yeah, I’d say they are much more liberal than us.

You left out the most screwed up part of that incident ... it was a DVD!

(Reminds me of hazing new employees back in the day with the “DVD rewinders”.)

This ... so much “this” that I wish they had used a mom and pop video store in Captain Marvel, but they went for the cheap and easy nostalgia kick instead.

I saw it today with my youngest and not sure a mom and pop would have had the impact or reignition.

It’s nice that a business has been open for 20 years but assuming the “more than” in the article doesn’t extend beyond a few years, that puts it right around the advent of DVD. Not that impressive by video store standards.

There’s a Showtime Video about 10 miles from my house. I’ve never been inside but one of theses days I need to just for nostalgia’s sake.

Yes, but does that Showtime Video have their own beer?

Yep. I think I read that the Russell Crowe props that John Oliver bought at auction and sent up there have since been donated to the Oregon location.

Re: Now there will be only one Blockbuster left on the planet!

My local Blockbuster closed years ago and I bought Rec, The Fall, Chocolate, and Flash Point on their closing door sales. The only blu-ray tile I saw was Monsters didn't buy that because I thought it was a boring flick. Pretty much just talking and less monsters on screen.

Gaël De Leon: [DVD P's translator] "Hey kids, tonight is family night. Remember, wash your hands before and AFTER the movies."

Kids: "Oui oui père!"

Do they have 20 copies of Creed II and all of them are checked out?

I don't miss the days where you could not watch a movie because it was not available to rent.

I thought the jockstrap went missing? Was it actually sent to the Oregon store?

Yep, last July. They had a long drawn out liquidation sale and sold all the racks and such. I should have gone down to score a sign or something but I've got enough crap.

“Missing.” There’s a new manager of a Family Video who goes to work today with a little secret that no one else knows.

Yeah, it's funny. There was that absolute feeling of euphoria getting a new title on release day.

Then you'd run home and call your pal: "Gary, bring your VCR over - got a copy of Ghostbusters to dub."
