Re: Dead pool 2019

Haven't played this in prior years - so the "winner" is just whomever gets the most people correct? Most of these I've seen subtracts the age from 100, so the younger the person, the more points you get...this avoids people from just picking a bunch of "old" celebs (like, say Kirk Douglas, who, at 101, wouldn't score you any points).

So, for example, if Ed Asner dies at 89, you'd get 11 points; but if Lindsay Lohan dies at 32, you'd get a whopping 68 points.

I guess no one likes the above way of scoring?

Re: Dead pool 2019

It was done that way in the 2017 pool. I changed it because it would have been time consuming to keep track of it. Picking all the old 90+ year old celebs isn't all that sucessful. I tried it, but out only one in that age group died from my list. I did the new poll to declare whoever reached the highest number first wins, than a point structure if there was still a tie. In retrospect, I wish I had just made the tie breaker point structured first; add up the numbers each deceased celeb was on on the list and the lowest score wins the tie breaker. That way more though has to be put into how you organize your list. After picking 20 celebs, you have to decide of them which ones are the better candidates.

Re: Dead pool 2019

Does anyone else feel like they've cast a death sentence on those that were on last year's list, but you chose not to include them this year?

Re: Dead pool 2019

Maybe it'd be a good idea to provide a list of everyone who's submitted their entries in the original post just to be sure - and keep adding to it.

I sent a PM, but I'm not sure it was received either.

Re: Dead pool 2019

I'm going to revise the tie breaker rule to make this easier if everyone is ok with it. It shouldn't affect your picks in anywhere, but it will make it more interesting towards the end of the year. Instead of a tie breaker being decided by whomever hits the mark first, we'll do the score ranking. Add up the the placement number(s) from the hits you get on your list and whomever has the lowest in the event of a tie wins.

For example suppose ken buzz and Coral both have the most correct picks at 5. If Ken buzz picks were numbers 1, 5, 7,9, 10, and 20 his score would be 52, and if Coral picks were numbers 8,9,10,11,and 12 his score would be 50. Since the average of Coral's picks were higher on the list he would win the tie breaker.

Good idea, though I wouldn't bother calculating the average. In your example, Coral's sum (50) is less than my sum (52), so his average would have to be lower anyway as they'd both be divided by the same # of correct picks (presumably 5). I would just recommend:

1 - Most correct picks, if tied then
2 - Lower total point count, if still tied then
3 - Earliest submission date/time

(PS - In your example, you show me with 6 correct picks vs 5 for Coral, so I would win anyway - yaay!)

If you entered and I missed you on the list above please post on here so I can double check my messages.

If you see any already deceased celebs on anyone's list also post on here. Someone didn't know George H W Bush had already passed.

Re: Dead pool 2019

It's odd, but the only thing I can think of in regards to Carol Channing is that one time on Whose Line is it Anyway, the game was "Famous movie lines delivered by Carol Channing". And Ryan Stiles did "Now, I know what you're wondering. Did he fire six shots or just five. You know, in all the chaos, I kind of lost track myself. But you got to ask yourself a question. Do I feel lucky? Well, do you, PUNK??"

I mostly know her from being on The Love Boat a bunch of times when I was a kid. IIRC, she also had a cameo on The Drew Carey Show at one point.
