Sinus problems?

I have many health issues and never really pursued a doctor's opinion on my sinuses.

The roof of my mouth swells and goes up and down and sinuses constantly run.

Anything natural over the counter stuff that will help with the problem?

Re: Sinus problems?

flonase can help a runny nose and is now available without a prescription.

Re: Sinus problems?

I hope you find a good solution. All I have to add beyond that is whenever I hear the word "sinus," I immediately think of this commercial for Sign-Off:

Re: Sinus problems?

Neti Pot w/ Distilled Water can be useful sometimes. Saline in general is pretty good.

But otherwise, mine come and go and it's annoying.

Re: Sinus problems?

I take allergy medication (Allegra), use an air purifier and do this :

It all helps in some way, but I still get a sinus infection every once in a while.

I also need to start using a humidifier when I go to bed.

Avoid this stuff at all costs. Any nasal spray, in fact...it works for a while, then - like an addiction - you need more and more of it just to keep your nose clear.

Re: Sinus problems?

I think the only over the counter allergy med I can take is Claratin.

Re: Sinus problems?

I've tried steroid nose sprays such as Flonase, but they are not for everyone.
They excessively dry out my sinuses and give me nosebleeds.

You might be thinking of Afrin which contains Oxymetazoline.
Afrin will open your nose up but the longer it's used it can damage the inside of your nose.

I don't think Flonase or Nasalcort does that.
Maybe some stinging or throat irritation.

Re: Sinus problems?

Go see an allergist. You need to figure out the cause of the problem in order to find a solution.

This isn't an issue with Flonase.

Exactly what I would suggest.

Re: Sinus problems?

Mucinex-D (not DM) clears my sinuses well. It's over-the-counter, but they do keep a log when you buy it and you have to show ID (because it contains pseudoephedrine).

Re: Sinus problems?

Locally grown raw honey is a natural remedy for allergies. I speak from personal experience that one teaspoon of local honey a day is a true miracle worker for sinus issues. Also, a Neti Pot with saline is beneficial in many ways, including helping to keep your sinus cavities clean, which helps improve your immune system to fight off cold viruses. Try to avoid using steroid sprays for allergies as they typically dry out your sinuses and can also cause cataracts over time with frequent use. Also, think about your diet and what foods you may be reacting to. Personally, I discovered that staying away from dairy, especially eggs, really helped improve my sinus issues.

Re: Sinus problems?

Try going to an ENT, I was told by mine that I have a deviated septum that is part of the problem.
We are exhausting all methods and leaving surgery as a last resort.
