The 2018 Christmas Tree Poll

This weekend I will once again try and fail to convince my wife that we would be better off just buying a high-quality artificial tree instead of doing the same ol' tree lot schlep with all the hassle and mess that it entails.

Made me curious about the forum's attitude on the topic.

Re: The 2018 Christmas Tree Poll

Tree murder or something you can use over and over every year? We go artificial in my house.

That and my wife is severely allergic to the usual type of Christmas trees.

And I see no pole here in this thread.

Quirk of the forum software, the thread gets posted while the poster is still writing the poll options.

I have an 18" artificial tree with built in lights put away in a box. I just install and be done with it. If I had a huge house with many kids then I would get a real tree.

Re: The 2018 Christmas Tree Poll

I used to use an artificial tree because after the initial investment it was a much better deal. Also, I used to have my tree up from October (over zealousness) to February (laziness) without worrying about causing a fire. Got married, and now I have a real tree up from any day now till New Years. Husband won't consider artificial or early, and he's nowhere near as lazy as I am.

I have a tiny artificial white christmas tree I got at a drugstore a few years ago when my life went to shit. I'm not sure I'll put it up this year, though ...

Re: The 2018 Christmas Tree Poll

I have used an artificial tree for most of my life apart from 3 or 4 Christmases, and I have no affinity or need for a real one. That said, for some reason, my wife was dead set on getting a real tree this year, and we just got one and set it up. My kids (8 and 9) who have never had a real tree before are being my kids and complaining about how things are different and they don't like it and are annoying the shit out of my wife.

We go back and forth. Had an artificial that slowly wore out. Did the cut down ourselves thing a few years, and now went back to artificial.

I have a small two foot artificial tree I put up every year. I may live alone but I like to have some decorations.

The cat wrecking the tree is the best part. That makes you YouTube famous.

Re: The 2018 Christmas Tree Poll

I'm dreading putting up the new fake tree we bought a couple years ago, since we now have two kittens to deal with. If they destroy it (and I suspect that will be the case), then I'm all for switching to real trees from here on out; if they're going to fuck with it, I'd rather it be something that didn't cost me over $100.

Artificial all the way.

We upgraded our old artificial about 4 years ago to a pre-lit model. Unfortunately that was about 1 year before LED became the new standard. Not looking forward to plugging it in and seeing how many bulbs are burnt out.

I put lights on the front of my townhouse, a wreath on the front door, and an electric Menorah in the front window. I like to confuse people.

Also ... no tree. I have three cats, they'd shred that fucker in fifteen seconds.

Artificial all the way same way we used to do with my parents.
My in-laws do real trees and they smell good but they usually weirdly shaped and give all sort of allergies to most of us.

I installed my pre-lit Christmas tree a few hours ago and one light is dead. But it was dead when I first bought it and didn't want to return because I bought the last one. I only paid $19.99 no big thang. Cute little tree though with a big star on top that lights up. Was so easy to pull out my closet and hook up.

Re: The 2018 Christmas Tree Poll

We have a 7’ artificial tree that we’ve had for 6 or 7 years.

Growing up we always went from tree lot to tree lot finding the perfect tree. I miss that tradition and have fond memories of getting out tree every year but I also know what a pain in the ass a real tree is to deal with.

In year or two, when my kids are old enough to handle it, I’d like to try cutting our own tree. I’ve never done it before but it sounds like it could be fun.

Because of allergies, we have to use an artificial tree. Also, we put up our tree really early, like the week before Halloween early.

Re: The 2018 Christmas Tree Poll

Growing up, we always had an artificial tree and I continue to do the same on my own.

i am Jewish but we celebrated Xmas and Chanukah as my mom converted when she married, but in her heart she was still Christian. Or it could be my parents wanted to hedge their bets which is why they also sacrificed virgins.

Re: The 2018 Christmas Tree Poll

I love going to the tree lots, fighting with the family over which tree is the best. Feeling the cold radiate off of the tree while I carry it on my shoulder into the house and getting into a fight with my wife as we try to stand the thing up straight only to have to reset the tree in the stand. Its all a deep seated tradition in this house and the smell is really nice. As a kid we had a shitty artificial really fake tree that I hated.

You haven't lived until you can burn your old Xmas tree in the spring, the 20-30' flame is just glorious.
