Married folks: Do you and your spouse share toothpaste and/or floss?

Comment in the Pet Peeves thread made me wonder how common this is? Personally, I have my own toothpaste and floss (two-sink master bath). I definitely use different toothpaste than the wife and honestly don't know if she uses different floss than me or not. I would look but her sink is surrounded by an impenetrable forest of bottles, tubes and tubs of health, beauty and hygiene products and if I even look at her sink area at least three bottles fall over.

I'm not understanding this ... you aren't reusing the same piece of floss or the same toothpaste the other person spit out ... guess I should check out the pet peeves thread. That thread just bugs me though.

Re: Married folks: Do you and your spouse share toothpaste and/or floss?

We each have our own but that’s mostly for convenience since we have two separate sinks/counter spaces in our bathroom.

I wouldn’t have a problem sharing the same tube of toothpaste or roll of floss though, unless you’re saying it’s the same string of floss, in which case I’d add that using someone else’s used string of floss is....refreshing?

We each have our own but we've shared before, just not the same mouthful of toothpaste foam (or the same piece of dental floss).

I like Tom's toothpaste, she likes Colgate. So we have different toothpastes.

Yeah, we have separate stuff - she has to use that $5/tube "sensitive" toothpaste, I use whatever big brand is on sale when I go to the store. But we would share if needed, and have in the past (like when she brought a travel-size tube on vacation not realizing it was only quarter full from previous trips).

Yes, we also have separate toothpaste. Only because we prefer different brands.

Floss is just there for either of us.

Different toothpaste. My wife uses some natural toothpaste and I use the Quip one that comes with our toothbrushes.

Separate toothpaste.

We prefer different brands. Also, I'm a "push up from the bottom" guy, while my wife just grabs the tube and squeezes from the middle. We maintain sanity by having our own tubes.

Separate bathrooms, separate toothpaste. We also like different kinds, so would still have separate ones if we shared a bathroom. When we travel, we sometimes share, even though her toothpaste sucks.

I highly recommend separate bathrooms if it’s manageable for you, it avoids lots of little annoyances.

Re: Married folks: Do you and your spouse share toothpaste and/or floss?

We share everything. We might occasionally have unique brands of products that we separately prefer, but if my shampoo/whatever is out I’ll use her’s and vice versa. I’m pretty OCD and am always cleaning up after my girls or “fixing” the toothpaste that she squeezes from the middle, but the thought of separate bathrooms would never occur to me. As much as she frustrates me in these little things, I would rather be close to her and annoyed than have moments apart when we could be in the same room.

Share toothpaste
Different floss (I buy stuff I like, she uses the freebies from the dentist)
Double sink

These items usually stay between the two sinks since they are share.

This is a riviting research study. I look forward to the published results.

The idea of separate bathrooms is weird to me. Even weirder to me is that, according to the article in The Atlantic, modern young married people change into their pajamas in their own bathrooms so their spouses never see them naked. One of the pleasures of married life is seeing my plump, middle-aged wife with her clothes off.

Are you reading an Atlantic article from the 1950s?

We're not sharing either currently, although we have shared toothpaste in the past. We just moved in to a house with a bigger bathroom and duel sinks also, so she has her own now. For floss, she uses the typical string floss but I use floss picks.

The article suggests that the pendulum is swinging back that way.

We share pretty much everything, including floss, toothpaste, toilet paper, etc. Includes food and money. We have our own clothes, but that's about it.

Re: Married folks: Do you and your spouse share toothpaste and/or floss?

Is this what gets people to post here at my beloved old haunt? I'm seeing names here I haven't seen in years ...

I'm single, but I have always had my own toothpaste because I buy Crest, and both SSG Honeylamb and the woman I was married to in the 1990s hated it. Floss was up for grabs, if the other person used mine I never noticed it because I always have a pile of it in the medicine chest.
