First thing you ever bought on Ebay?

First thing I bought was the famous "Leonard Nimoy Demonstrates the Magnavision Videodisc Player" laserdisc, in summer 1999. I already had a VHS copy but had to have the actual disc. I didn't buy a lot from Ebay back then because Paypal didn't exist yet, so you had to do a whole song and dance with the seller giving you their address after winning and then you mailing them a check. The way it works now makes it a lot easier to impulse buy stuff.

Of course I can throw that disc out now because you can see it on YouTube:

Bonus question- first thing you ever SOLD on Ebay? For me it was a duplicate copy of the first World War II With Walter Cronkite CED videodisc, a rare title that had been available only from Columbia House. Practically gave it away as it only got one bid. You can't see that one on YouTube but someone uploaded two of the other VHS volumes in bad quality.

First thing I bought was import VCDs of the Dragonball Z movies; LONG before they were ever localized to English.

Ebay only seems to show my history for the last couple years. Is there a way to look back further?

Re: First thing you ever bought on Ebay?

I had all the original Star Trek "Gold Key" comics except one of them and I was having a lot of trouble finding it. I finally got contacted by someone who ran a comic book store way far away from me who said they had one and would sell it to me for $500 which I was actually considering. Right about then I was told about Ebay and someone was actually selling exactly what I was looking for on there for $200. I was really hesitant but went for it and it was just what I had needed to complete my collection.

Funny how stuff like that which used to be "rare" since you could only find it if you got lucky a comic book convention or garage sale or something turns out not to be so rare at all now that there's the world-wide 24/7 garage sale known as eBay. Today I could get it for about $45.

Re: First thing you ever bought on Ebay?

First purchase was around 2003. It was the CLV laserdisc of Star Wars. The “faces” version.

I don’t remember my first sale. But it was probably a lego minifigure or a purse my wife got as a gift and didn’t like. And it was a nice purse. I think it went for $80.

First thing I bought on ebay was a big Godzilla toy from a seller in Japan back in 1998-99. Unfortunately the dumbass didn't package it well enough and the box was damaged. Also, I think a shill bidder was involved (I hadn't learned the fine art of sniping yet).

Can't be sure of the exact item but I started building a Star War figure collection in early 1999 so certainly some kind of Star Wars toy.

If I recall correctly, it was a gun. eBay used to allow firearms to be bought and sold and I bought a Swedish Mauser from a guy in Arizona (legally shipped through an FFL). This would have been in the late 90s.

I bought an underwater scooter for $1,000. I used it for five years and then sold it for $1,200. I love Ebay. Before Paypal you could still use a credit card or debit. I never sent checks to anyone.

I donít think so. Back when they first started, they only saved the item numbers for a couple of months. You can look back at your feedback, and if you can associate what you bought with the seller name, thatís about the bestbyou can do. That, or if you still have the same-mail address and saved your olde-mail, you can dig through that.

New and sealed for $20 back in 1998. Still have it, never opened. Probably worth at least $21 now!

Thanks. If I ever find my old hard drives with my old mail, I may research this. But probably comics.

Beolink 1000 remote control.

Some other early purchases: vintage General Lee toy car (the one that 3 1/2" figures sat in), a sterling silver R2-D2 ring as a gift, a small collection of Atari 2600 carts, and a replacement power jack for a laptop.

Re: First thing you ever bought on Ebay?

It was likely a box of IBM Model M keyboards. I think I got 10 for $50. I didn't want that many of course, but people were basically giving them away. I only kept two and I'm still using one of them. I wish I had kept the others longer though as I'm sure I could've made a pretty good profit.

It was April of 1999. I think it was a high school yearbook from the 1930's that one of my relatives was in.

You are probably the only person who knows this exists and cares about it. It's boring as hell, too.

Re: First thing you ever bought on Ebay?

I remember buying Mafia! On DVD. Before DVDís were available everywhere. Mailed a money order. Ha! Paypal didnít exist yet. Pretty sure that was my first.

Worst was when I bought a cd for $2 and had to pay with a MO. Some Clerks douchebag at Circle K said something condescending about why I donít have my mommy write a check. I was 15 and already had low self esteem. Made me feel like shit. Paypal started within a few months and I never had to see that douchebag again.

If I had a time machine, first Iíd kill Hitler. Assuming I didnít fuck up the space time continuum and cease to exist, I go to that time and bitch slap him in his confused 20 something slacker grunge face.
