Anyone aware of any Prudential insurance scams?

My mom got a UPS package delivered to her house from Prudential (or so she thought), which she has life insurance with. the letter said we undercharged you for 3 or so years and you have to pay $10,000+ by 10/31. She got the letter the other day, 10/16. She called the number on letter, took her to place in Philippenes. Now, she is also under the assumption that ALL call centers are mid-east, india, or any country, but America. and she always asks where am i calling? so she called and the lady said we'll investigate or whatever.

now, we just had a family gathering and we all looked at this letter with Prudential letter head and her contract # or something, but looked photocopied. not even original. and everything about it was very off.

but, i searched the internet and didn't see anything related to Prudential life insurance scams.

anyone have this happen or heard it happen?

Call Prudential, 1-800-778-2255. If she owes $10,000 they’ll know about it.

But yes, it is a scam.

I don't see how anyone wouldn't immediately think to look up and call the actual Prudential support number if they weren't sure.

Of course, it's OldBoy so I guess I should stop being surprised by things like this and that people fall for this stuff. I hope your mom didn't provide any actual personal information when she called.

Quick question. Who is she paying? Prudential? Or is it Mr. Dong who lives outside the US.

I know it wasn't you, but it amuses me that you and your family got together to look at this thing and still came away a little unsure and apparently didn't think of calling Prudential directly. But hey, at least you actually searched for something on the internet first.

I’m pretty sure “Insurance scam” is an oxymoron.

And yeah, step 1 should have been to call Prudential.

We should change the board's name to Scam Talk. DVDs may become obsolete, but never scams.
