As someone who 'likes' to believe the Government has the ability to cure cancer, when you see headlines like this, you step back and think, "maybe they don't"
I mean, the guy was worth nearly $22 Billion. One would think all that money could buy said 'cure'

Dead 2 weeks after discovering his cancer returned and after his doctors deemed they were optimistic on treatment - seems kind of quick.

RIP though I do not like the Seahawks but I respect what he did for his team and community and he was a mellow reserved guy that did not seek attention.

Re: Paul Allen Microsoft Co-Founder Dead at 65

65 is too young to die these days, and I had no love for Paul Allen, believe me. There must be a lot more to this story. Or, it goes to show how utterly useless all the money in the world is in curing the dreaded Cancer. I guess this goes to show that the rich don't always prosper, which is what I *used* to think. Wisdom and living and observation have taught me very differently.

Anyone ever think maybe Paul wanted to die, and didn't want to continue any kind of treatment. Paul was a very spearheaded guy. He determined his destiny. He was diagnosed way back in the early 80's, so...the last 38 years he battled this. It was time, he knew it, and he moved on.

Not sure why he would have wrote that he's going to "fight this challenge" if he really had given up. I think he likely got an updated diagnosis that told him it was too late within that 2 week period. I don't think he determined his destiny at all - I think it was determined for him.

Well, I suppose death is predetermined for all of us, so in that sense, yeah, he was fucked.

Re: Paul Allen Microsoft Co-Founder Dead at 65

Sad news about his passing.

This was really big news in the NFL because he also owns the Seattle Seahawks and there is a question mark now of who takes over since he doesn't have any immediate family except his sister.

Man, dying 2 weeks after announcing his cancer was back. He must have been in really bad shape physically to succumb so fast.

Re: Paul Allen Microsoft Co-Founder Dead at 65

He said he was going to fight the cancer again, but obviously it was far worse than before or he was very sick already.

He owned both the Seahawks and Blazers and the situation for both is unknown at this point. I could see Balmer looking to take over the Seahawks, but that still leaves the Blazers since Balmer already own the Clippers.

If you believe that The Government has the ability to cure cancer but only gives it to the favored, why not follow up with more conspiracy theory? THEY killed Paul Allen with cancer for nefarious reasons. Why else would he have died two weeks after saying that doctors were optimistic he would beat the disease?

Today I learned that Paul Allen, the Microsoft billionaire who invests in real estate and who used to live in Albuquerque, has nothing to do with Albuquerque real estate developer Paul Allen Homes.

I know this is going to sound corny but I like to pay my respects to these tech giants as basically put, if it wasn't for them I wouldn't have the great career I have going today.

Even though 65 is over a lifetime away from me, that still seems, way, way, too young to go in this day and age.

$26 Billion! Let's see, that's almost $100 for each man, woman, child, and "other" in the USA. OOPS! I've seriously erred, it's $10,000 for each one of the "top 1%" which is how Paul Allen and his minions roll. And the bottom 99% get nothing.

Oh well... Too bad for the rest of us poor as dirt scumbags.

Paul Allen founded the Allen Institute https://alleninstitute.org/what-we-do/brain-science/. It's one of premier biomedical research institutes in the US, not surprisingly it's on the forefront of information technology and bioscience.

Re: Paul Allen Microsoft Co-Founder Dead at 65

I guess that his Institute is a bit of a competitor to the Howard Hughes Medical instiute, of similar auspices. One bright light that Allen left the world, but the other side of the coin is that it garnered him the expected immense tax write-offs and the possibility to launder his money legally. These "institues" and "foundations" including the Bill Gates Foundation, are infamous for that. To be a true steward of humanity, they should do it without the kickbacks, and spread the love of their wealth among all persons, as I sardonically alluded to in the "1% post" above...

Sadly, the Seattle City Council has a complete and utter troll as one of their members.
