Question about The Simpsons shorts that encompasses many catagories

I decided to put this in Other because it’s about TV, home video, and movies.

Okay, the Simpsons started out as cartoon shorts on the Tracy Ullman Show.

I have a memory of these shorts getting tacked on to the beginning of VHS releases of feature films. Like a cartoon short before the feature.

I distinctly remember the VHS of the movie Shirley Valentine having a Simpsons short before the feature. Does anyone else remember this?

You mean this? Yeah, I remember these back in the day. I even remember the original Tracey Ullman Show. Great stuff.

I vaguely remember this happening. I'm sorry I can't remember many details.

I watched The Tracey Ullman Show to also catch The Simpsons.

I also rented the VHS of Shirley Valentine but I don't distinctly remember the short in front of it.

I watched The Tracey Ullman Show only to catch The Simpsons. I don't really recall liking the rest of the Ullman show that much, but thought the Simpsons were great. I don't remember seeing any Simpsons shorts at the beginning of any films on VHS though. I'm assuming they were only on Fox videos, or rather, CBS Fox Video as it was back then.

Thanks to the comments section of that YouTube video I have determined there was a Simpsons short before Working Girl and Say Anything. The connection is that they were all Gracie Films.

Ah, Gracie Films, that makes sense then.

Same here. We called them "Bart toons" 'cause they hadn't titled it "The Simpsons" yet. I still remember the first time a friend made me watch The Tracey Ullman Show and I kept getting up to leave but he said "Wait for the cartoons!"

Off-topic, there was one Tracey Ullman sketch so funny, one of my roommates at the time said he could hear my other roommate and me laughing as he was in his car and parking in front of our building. In it, Tracey was in a dance competition, but her competitor had stolen her underwear. Watching her do her dance routine while trying to keep her skirt from flying up was some of the best physical comedy I've ever seen.

Clicked on thread expecting Mabuse to be wondering why Simpsons' shorts were not indeed edible.

Re: Question about The Simpsons shorts that encompasses many catagories

Does Tracey Ullman own any of the rights to the show or merchandising since The Simpsons originated on the show she produced?

No. She attempted to sue for a portion, claiming it was a spin-off of her show. But she did not win the case.
