Has the Dvdtalk Community stopped growing ?

I don't hang out on too many of the subforms nowadays, probably mostly TV but i have noticed it has slowed quite a bit over the last few years

When you look through threads, almost everyone has a join date of 2009 or older. Rare to see a regular poster who joined in the last few years

So has dvdtalk become a hang out for us oldies ?

the domain name obviously is a factor. the young generation now barely know dvds lol

Geoff K definitely sold at the right time

Re: Has the Dvdtalk Community stopped growing ?

Threads like this pop up every so often and yeah, DVDtalk forums certainly isn't getting any younger.

Domain name is a factor but social media has changed over the years. Facebook and the Twitter rule the internet talk spaces today and as for anonymous forums with specific topics it's all about Reddit.

Yes.

The cool kids have moved onto communicating through Instagram and Reddit.

Everything dies. Facebook and Twitter are just a few years behind this forum.

I still love you people tho. Pretty sure I'd be really sad if this place was closed down.

This. Forums everywhere are dying or dead. An earlier name change may have helped, but there is probably little point now.

Stopped growing? When was the last time this forum actually had a net increase of members? 15 years ago?

We get the various trolls signing up for various scams, usually necroing a 6 six year old thread, at least 1 every couple of weeks.

Isn't reddit just a massive forum? I still don't get why it's so popular.

It's the Amazon of forums. One stop shopping for all topics with a huge member base.

Yes. And your first sentence answers your second sentence. Reddit is better structured than twitter and Facebook. Itís easy to get sucked into conversation. Much like here.

So let's say you have a keen interest in sewer covers and you decided you wanted to make your own forum on Reddit for folks that also shared your passion and love for sewer covers. You could just create your own forum (AKA subreddit) and start inviting people to it. You set the rules (open, private, etc) , you do the moderating, etc.. It's all very easy and highly adaptable to staying current.

Reddit is great. The breadth of topics and information you can find is pretty awesome. However, it lacks the personality/personalities that a smaller forum like this has.

OR....

You could come here and start a thread, tell us about how you have an awesome collection of sewer covers, but your Dad won't let you keep them in the living room, where they belong. Then ask us all if he's being unreasonable, and argue with us when we suggest that it's his house and you should move if you don't like his rules.

Then we could find every article and pic on the internet about a vehicle driving over/into a manhole that was missing its sewer cover, and suggest that you were adding to your collection.

Before long, some of those photos would be photoshopped to show you peering out of the open manhole, or hiding inside a sewer like Pennywise.

Good times.

The only new people I see show up here are the ones who accidentally find this forum on a Google search, ask one or two questions and then bail. I’m sure there are thousands of users here with 1 or 2 posts and that’s it.

But aren't you more likely to get "Doxed" on Reddit for disagreeing with someone?

A lot of the doods here scared away the female dvdtalkers. We're like the Ents of LoTR. Can't find the Entwives.

I've been here for about 10 years, and I'm still one of the newer members in terms of people who post regularly. I showed up here after the peak, after the sale to IB, and I got here searching for Columbia House codes.

That's probably because your username doesn't give you away as a female.

I'm just saying that women with usernames that give away their gender tend to bring out creeps.

Yeah, it was sad when MissCuteTits69 had to leave the forum.
