So I went out of town for a bit and well, basically forgot about this. As slow as this place is, I'm going to put the semifinals of the TOAT vote up for 2 months to gather the proper amount of votes, which should be like 15 or so since nobody lives here anymore. For those of you who don't know, TOAT = Thread of All Time. There's a nomination thread, but that ship has sailed. No more nominations. The voting will begin. Since the max number of poll options is 25 and we have 28 nominations, this will have to be done in 2 threads to narrow it down to the top 10, and then the final vote will have to be done in a 3rd thread. Some fantastic classic threads in this race, but I had to go with the 9/11 thread. That's the one that had the most impact on me.

Oof, some really good choices here, I really have to think about this one.

The 9/11 one is very gripping and heart wrenching, but I didn't read it at the time it was posted because that was a year before I started visiting here, it probably would have had much more impact if I was reading it "live" as it unfolded. It's still a contender for me though.

The Jace thread is the one I laughed hardest at, but The First Date in 4 1/2 Years was the most riveting and consistently funny.

I get the enduring appeal of the Cleanliness thread, but overall, it's boring as fuck.

Jace was up against Landlords in 2014 and Landlords took the prize that year. Looks like more of the same in this vote. I got some really good laughs out of the Jace thread.

9/11 thread was what I followed for news, but that's really just it, it's a news thread.

Landlord thread is a gabillion posts saying the same things over and over (might as well be in politics or a thread of zyzzle posts ), but it doesn't really go anywhere.

Landlords is the only one I remember, so I voted for that one. It may also be the only one I participated in. I didn't even know about the 9/11 thread. I joined here in 2009.

I didn't realize #8 was the Jace thread until I read through this thread. I don't remember what it was about, but I remember it being funny.

Haven't voted yet- I'm leaning towards Pretty Sure Wife Wants to Leave, but will have to take a look at all the nominees first. I personally think the 9/11 thread should be in a class by itself, since it pertains to an actual historical event which can't compare with any of the other topics- no, I don't think a plane is ever going to crash into my apartment, it's on the ground floor anyways.

While the landlord thread is an okay thread, extremely overrated.

I think in this group, the 9/11 and Top Bunk threads are what most exemplify Otter at its peak. Keep in mind, Top Bunk was not an isolated thread existing in A vacuum.

The crayon thread hands down in the other group.

I voted for orangecrush's "Please help me settle a dispute with my wife" -- fun thread with many of us responding and oc even made a video (sadly no longer available). Refreshing will never be the same again.

I ended up voting for "I am having one lucky week" because of the instant anger towards the OP, and just to hopefully mix it up in the voting.

I have now decided that Smithee has gotten more attention than is merited.

I think Landlords gets a lot of press here because the thread is still running. It's an insane thread, but we've had some beauties over the years even if they have run their course. They were hilarious in their day.

Funniest thread would be a whole different thing. The landlords thread is the rare thread that combines some great humor, community building, AND actually helping each other. Not sure any other thread comes close to reaching that trifecta.

To me the landlord thread is like the I am having one lucky week! YMMV thread. It's the OP being piled on by everyone and never accepting the fact that everyone else is right...plus lots of great pictures.
