Man, LX98Civic‘s kid is like 21 now. I wonder if he’s a grandpa yet?

JMO, but nothing will ever beat the 9/11 thread. Every time I have ever read it, I get chills. Such a sad day in American History. It's hard to believe next month will be the 17th Anniversary.

Re: TOAT - vote - Semifinals division A

I honestly never read any of these other threads but for me, it's Landlord by a mile. The thread has everything:

1.A poster in denial and being faced with the fact that he is a slob.

2. Other posters trying to help him by telling him to get rid of some things.

3. The poster refusing to get rid of things because he's still hurt over selling his Sesame Street records 17 years ago.

4. Everyone else realzing that maybe its time they stop worshipping media and start getting rid of of their collections.

5. Another poster talking about how much better he was than everyone else because he does not read comic books and insead reads literature.

6. Fat woman porn playing on the TV because he thought it was funny and cheap so he bought some.

7. An innocent women who trusted Alan with her VHS tapes, and thought that he was burning them to DVD and doing it out of kindness, while he was really doing it in order to add to his horde.

8. Everyone finally giving up and realizing that while Alan is beyond help, at least he helped everyone else who are happier without being obsessed with DVD's.

Seriously, this is worthy of a novel.

I went back and read the entire thread. The anger of that day is still strong, but what also angered me was the fact that news media hasn't changed as far as reporting without checking facts. There were several posts about a car bombing at the Capitol and bombs going off inside the WTC. I hate the term Fake News but it really does apply at times.

I dunno, The Honeyclam Saga really gives Smithee's thread a run for its money in terms of a poster in denial about reality, as well as someone who asked for advice yet rejected all common sense suggestions he got. I was a mere lurker back then, but that thread was entertaining on a daily basis. Multiple times daily, in fact. It was probably good that I was waffling on signing up for an account, as I couldn't believe how the OP was so truly oblivious to reality.

I may close the poll at the end of August instead of the end of September. Seems like the voting is slowing down.

This is tough. I'd going to have to go with Honeyclam or Eddie Money. Honeyclam is far funnier, but Eddie's story was a great thread altogether.

If we could vote more than once you wouldn't have this problem!

Drinkman gets my vote.

A lot of good threads here, but I remember laughing so damn hard at those comics, and I think the level of effort and creativity there deserves more votes than a thread from an attention seeking hoarder.

The Drinkman and other threads are all great too, but it appears you haven’t actually looked at the landlord thread. Over 90% of the thread is DVDTalkers trying to help each other.

Re: TOAT - vote - Semifinals division A

Why did you all do this to me? Honeyclam ... 42 pages and no resolution ... I feel like having made it through that thread that I should get to add it to my goodreads.com list.

I used to have a life, and then I was sad after 3 days of reading the thread for .75 - 1.5 hours a day, to find it had no resolution.

And then I found the other three equally long threads ...

Can someone call my employer for me to let them know I need another week off work?

Re: TOAT - vote - Semifinals division A

Some of these are a really good way to cheer yourself up a little after a crappy day.

Does anyone remember the one where the poster (or poster's friend) accidentally got married? He was trying to help a new immigrant or something and had to pretend to be the spouse, and ended up signing some papers at a lawyer's office, and he wasn't fully aware he might have signed a marriage document and now has a wife. I think that was the gist of it. I just remember it made me laugh out loud for a long time. Anyone remember that particular thread and can find it?

Edit: ah, finally found it, and by page 4, had me laughing out loud again: https://forum.dvdtalk.com/other-talk...draw-line.html

Re: TOAT - vote - Semifinals division A

So if I'm reading this correctly, these are the 5 that are moving on:

Plane crashes into World Trade Center!!
Landlords on my case about my cleanliness!
Pretty sure wife wants to leave... (and she's gone)
Dating advice needed (1st date in 4 1/2 years!)
The Drink-Man Chronicles & Drink-Man 2: Drink Harder
