Bill Gibron, one of the first DVDTalk reviewers, passes away

http://www.floridafilmcritics.com/20...n-passes-away/

He wrote over 1000 reviews here, from 2004 to 2014. He wasnít a super active poster, but was always willing to listen to feedback on his reviews.

Here are some words from site founder Geoff on Bill:
When Bill Gibron first came to write for me at DVD Talk, he wasn't a particularly good writer. He was actually one of the first writers we got complaints about, people had issues with his style, his punctuation, his sentences. Bill took the feedback hard a number of times, but you know what, he kept going. Bill kept writing, review after review, he did horror under the shadow of G. Noel Gross and Cineschlokorama, and classics under the shadow of Glen Erikson and The DVD Savant. Bill wasn't intimidated, he just kept writing. He wrote and wrote and wrote. His reviews went from rough and clunky to well formed, with a signature style and flair. The point is Bill never gave up, not once, not for a moment. He navigated the ups and downs without losing enthusiasm, and that's something special. Bill went on far beyond DVD Talk, and I knew he always would, his passion for the art of moviemaking ran so deep, DVD Talk couldn't be it all, and it wasn't. Bill went on to make quite a name for himself as a movie critic, not just a reviewer, not just one of those online movie geeks, but a through and through movie critic. He's the epitome of what you can do when you let your passion guide you and never let anything cloud that passion. He will be deeply missed.
A gofundme has been set up for his widow.

I was a reviewer here when Bill joined the team. I can't say I knew him very well but he always seemed like a good dude and I enjoyed his reviews. The guy definitely had passion. RIP Bill.

Very sad. I have a tendency not to pay attention to the author of DVDTalk reviews but I’m sure I’ve read a large number of his reviews without realizing it.

He seemed like a very nice guy.

RIP DVDTalk brother.

I'm like GoldenJCJ in that I usually don't look at the author. Still, always sad when one of our own passes.

The guy was probably a saint, but his overuse of alliteration made his reviews unreadable.

There is no need now that he‘s passed to piss on the poor guy’s permanent place of ...

RIP Bill; hope that would have made you smile.

Billís purple prose indeed pushed at the perimeters, but he was a stand-up guy with a great sense of humor.

Otter adieu, bro.

How old was he? Of what did he die? He looks fairly young. RIP, Bill.

Article says 56yrs. It makes mention that he suffered a heart attack but it doesn't shed anymore details. I imagine perhaps complications from a heart attack.

Wow, he lived in the same town as me. Sad to hear of his passing. Considering donating to one of these:

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Forensics Award at the Academy of the Holy Names or to the St. Francis Society Animal Rescue or to your favorite charity.

A friend of Billís widow has established a gofundme page to cover the unforeseen funeral expenses. For those who want to contribute, please visit this link:

Too bad. I always enjoyed his reviews, even the ones I did not agree with.

He got better over the years, as have we all. I wince looking at my earlier stuff, as I'm sure I'll wince five years from now at my current stuff.

A belated RIP.

I noticed on the gofundme page that 'das Monkey' donated. So with one man's passing, we know of another still alive.
