Miss America Pagaent eliminating Swimsuit competition, judging on appearance

That's right, America's premier beauty contest will no longer take into account the appearance of it's contestants and will no longer feature it's most famous segment, the swimsuit competition. Ratings should soar

Way to go! I can't wait to ignore this year's Miss America contest the same way I have ignored every other year's Miss America contest.

They should also eliminate the talent portion, the asking them questions, and having them appear on any stage.

Maybe they should just base their "scholarship program" on test scores?

While this sounds like crazy PC or some such, the truth is we moved past beauty pageants in like the 1970’s. They are a very archaic thing. I wish them luck trying to tweek it into something that can still sell in the twentieth century, but what their pitching sounds like a bunch of girls going through a college application process.

Well they already said they were responding to the #Metoo movement. But yeah, something completely irrelevant just became even more irrelevant.

The last time I paid attention to anything in those pageants was Steve Harvey and Miss Carolina or whoever gave really air-headed answers.

Showing horses or dogs is one thing. Beauty pageants are for shallow human beings. You say the pageant contestants will no longer be judged on appearance? Pull this leg and it plays "There She Is."

I don’t know how you say judging on appearance will longer be a part of the pageant yet the ladies will still put the same effort into their appearance. It’s hard to judge yet what these changes will look like until this year’s pageant.

Great, so viewers will be getting several dozen Adeles, gracing the television screens.

Why is this the decade of extreme "pretending to care". Just be who are, and have a show based on what it is. If you don't like it, don't watch it. If it doesn't have enough viewers...take it off the fucking air waves, instead of trying to fool viewers into thinking it's something different.

This only affects those that have been watching every year.

Never understood the need for the bathing suit competition. How often would they wear a bathing suit after winning? It seemed like a creepy excuse to ogle women.

Re: Miss America Pagaent eliminating Swimsuit competition, judging on appearance

The entire thing is stupid and out of date. It has zero relevance to anything. We may hear "___" won the miss america, but aside from that day, it has no meaning until the next contest a year later, when we care about it for 10 minutes.

If people still want to watch it and pay money for it, then sure, still show it on TV. I don't see it being around much longer though. I can only imagine the ratings have dropped consistently the past few years. I just watched the swimsuit contest from 2017 and it was awful. Giant swimsuits for women in their 40s. So even if someone was watching it for erotic/jerk off purposes, movies and pornography are still a lot better than these things.

It would be interested if this contest actually had more lasting value or meaning in the past. Is there a documentary about the history out there?

The last time I watched Miss America was after seeing Alien in 1979. As a ten-year-old, I needed a palate cleanser.

The whole idea seems pointless now and they should just get rid of it entirely. Likely nobody would notice it was gone at all except for the 13 full-time employees ...

I would totally vote for someone who looked and sang like Adele.

I look for a bunch of people who haven't even thought about Miss America in twenty years to be really upset about this.

I'm actually curious what the ratings have been like for the last 10-20 years.

I’m sure it’ll totally work too. They won’t be judged on appearance but I’m guessing the winner will still be smoking hot. Not judged on appearance at all though...

I agree that beauty concepts are obsolete in today's world, but that's mostly because of everyone being so PC and 'sophisticated'. Back in the day (when people's feelings weren't made of onion skins), they could be fun and entertaining.

I bemoan the fading popularity of the pie eating contest. Damn whippersnappers donít know fun from a funeral these days.
