Anyone have an allergy to deodorant?

I used to use an antiperspirant, but that gave me a rash. then deodorant only. now, all of a sudden, past half year maybe, that gives me a rash. have used to different ones, Old Spice something and Gillette gel something. both rash.

anyone have this?

can someone recommend a non-allergic deodorant if there is such a thing?

Just to not smell like a hobo? Baking powder mixed with baby powder 50/50, apply lightly with a puff.

To not get sticky? Can't help you.

I use Arm & Hammer deodorant "Fresh" and "Unscented". In rotation. They both are great, I prefer the "Unscented" better but it does smell a bit like baby powder.

I also trim my pits to the point of having no hair. When I had much hair I would end up with a rash or a small cyst. Not good.

Re: Anyone have an allergy to deodorant?

I had issues with a particular gel type that Old Spice has. I actually read that it was common, and a quick search now shows a lawsuit about it.

I don't have any issues with however you would describe the more standard roll own powerdery looking stuff

Iím pretty sure I do to gel deodorants because I tend to get a rash if I wear it. Iíve never had an issue with regular stick kind (Iíve used a variety of brands but get Axe mostly). I used aerosol kind for a while and never had an issue with it either.

I've tried to use deodorants like Speedstick, but they irritate my skin.

No problem with antiperspirants, though.

Re: Anyone have an allergy to deodorant?

Yeah, deodorant irritates my skin, too. Actually to the point of causing my skin to flake.

I used solid antiperspirant for years, but found it would stain my shirts.

For the last couple of years I've been using this stuff called Certain-Dri. It's designed to shrink your pores to stop you from sweating. It works very well, although I do find it occasionally makes me itch. You only use it every couple of days.

I also have sensitive skin, and therefore use, as you others do, unscented deodorants, or ones especially for sensitive skin. That's probably what ails you as well, OldBoy.

Re: Anyone have an allergy to deodorant?

Yeah solid deodorants made my pits itch for years until I figured it the problem.

I used aerosols for a while, including Axe, but finally discovered salt crystals. You just wet it and apply to your underarm. The salt inhibits the growth of the bacteria that cause the odors.

Keep in mind, I’m a low odor person. I have to get outside and do major lawn work to get up a funk so if you’re are stinkier than usual it might not be enough for you.

Look for one that specifically claims to be for sensitive skin.

I feel your pain. I can't use scented lotions, soaps, etc. or I'll break out. The lovely English-rose complexion isn't always all it's cracked up to be.

Have you ever tried Ammens Medicated Powder. I had a similar problem with deodorant roll-ons and sprays. Switching to powder really helped.

I eventually solved the problem by becoming a shut-in. Air conditioning is awesome.

I'm allergic to the aluminum found in most deodorants causing me to break out in an itchy rash under my arms of all places.

As George Carlin said "Put a bay leaf under each arm. You'll smell like soup."

Re: Anyone have an allergy to deodorant?

It appears I am allergic to any Old Spice product, whether it's deodorant, cologne, aftershave, whatever. The affected area gets red and itchy for a day or 2.

Re: Anyone have an allergy to deodorant?

I am. Dermatologist recommended I use something aluminum-free like Tom's, but that didn't work out either. Lately, I've been using Gold Bond Ultimate Men's Essentials Body Powder after showering. I'm very self-conscious about body odor and this keeps me feeling confident that I don't reek.

Re: Anyone have an allergy to deodorant?

Yeah. It's annoying as hell and progresses quickly from itch to overwhelming rash. The "all natural" stuff is just as bad, for me specifically I think it has to do with the fragrances used and not the aluminum. I tried powders for a while but had a similar reaction during workouts.

I've been using Dove Men+Care Invisible Dry Spray for the last year or so, haven't had a rash since.

Re: Anyone have an allergy to deodorant?

Not allergic, but I am sensitive to some brands and/or ingrediants. They cause itching and redness. I switched to Dove deodorant and antiperspirant and no more problems.

Re: Anyone have an allergy to deodorant?

I use Dry Idea unscented roll-on. It doesn't make me itch, works for 72 hours, and most importantly, it's cheap. I refuse to pay a fortune for toiletries.
