What's the closest drive-in from where you live and have you been?

The two nearest Drive-In theaters from where we live would be about an hour and an hour and 1/2 away, and no, I have not been.

Just curious.

I haven't seen a drive in movie theater in years.

I passed a former drive in movie theater on route 27 north of The Villages in FL, but they had recently turned it into a drive in church.

Re: What's the closest drive-in from where you live and have you been?

79.5 miles, about a 90-minute drive in light traffic, and no. The last movie I remember seeing in a drive-in was Superman in 1980. I remember it was 1980 as it was a double-feature with Private Benjamin (which was new) and the plan was that the kids would have fallen asleep by the time the R-rated Private Benjamin was playing. Didn't happen, at least for me.

There was one not too far from where my ex-in-laws lived during my first marriage that we talked about going to but never did.

I think there is only two in the area. The one in KCK along I-35 and the other one is in Independence, MO somewhere. To answer the question no I have never been to a drive in, but probably should go at least once in my life.

Closest (3 miles) use to be Kam Drive-in in Aiea. But they stopped showing movies in 1998. We also had the Kailua Drive-In Kailua, Sunset Drive-In in Waipahu, Wai'alae Drive-In in Kahala, Maui Drive-In in Kahului. I heard there was one a Kapi'olani Drive-In in Honolulu but that closed down before I moved from Maui to Oahu.

There's 4 or 5 of them within a 40 mile radius of me. Closest is about 10 miles. I haven't been in at least 10 years.

Probably a 100 miles away. Never been to one. Don't care for one either.

There's one 13 miles from me, but I haven't been yet. I can never find anyone to go with me.... I feel weird going to a drive in alone.

Re: What's the closest drive-in from where you live and have you been?

The Vali-Hi Drive-In is the last one in the Twin Cities metro, about on the east side (20 miles / 30 minutes from the center of Minneapolis) People line up two hours early to get a good spot. They let you bring whatever you want, including alcohol and small grills to tailgate. Armour Hot Dogs are a buck. You get three movies per night, too, a real bargain. They're pretty good at kid and family dare early and more adult movies later. The sound is over the boxes and FM radio. We put an air mattress in the back of the van and pop the tailgate toward the screen for the kids, them we have lawn chairs and a boom box for us. We try to go at least once per summer.

There are at least two more in great Minnesota and both are pretty good, but Vali-Hi is the top dog.

A Google search says 22.5 miles away from me (in Irvine) to go to Riverside for one. Looks like there's some others 28 miles away more in the LA/Pasadena areas.

When in Oregon

Motor Vu Drive-In in Dallas,Oregon.47 min (31.9 mi)

But it closed last year.Went a few times over the years.
It was more about just hanging out with family and the food was good and not over priced.
Albany and some other small towns have free movies in the park in the summer that the kids enjoy.
Not sure about the screen size.

There's still one in San Jose, CA. It used to be run by Century but it changed hands. I can't recall what it's called now but I think they make more money when it's a flea market on the weekends.

Dairy Queen just about 20 min. walk where I lived. Don't like the burger there but loved the Blizzard. Just maybe 15 min. walk from there the next one would be Jack-In- Box and close by In- Out-Burger.

Capitol something.I use to go on Thursday when I lived in the bay area like 20+ years old.Shit I'm getting old.

They had lots of sellers that day.Never cared for the huge San Jose flea market.
The flea markets at some of the colleges were also good.I bought some crap I did not need.I'll stick to yard sales once in awhile these days.

Re: What's the closest drive-in from where you live and have you been?

We’ve got one about 30 minutes from us. We saw Inside Out there a few years ago. They were playing a second movie (I can’t remember what it was) but we weren’t interested and left before the second one started.

It was fun but it’s definitely not an optimal movie watching experience. It can be a fun summertime event but NOT for the movies.

There was another drive-in that’s now torn down not too far from my old house in Denver. I never went because there was a lot of gang activity around on a regular basis.

Thereís one about 45 minutes from me, but Iíve never been. I keep thinking about taking my kids but all their showings are double features and that makes for a late night.

We have 2 near us. One is about 8 miles away with 3 screens, and the other is about 12 miles away with 4 screens.

Like I posted above, we saw Inside Out a few years ago but prior to that the last time I went to a drive in I saw Superman III. So I was definitely due.

Transit Drive-In - Lockport, New York. https://www.transitdrivein.com/

One of my cousins and her family live near by (15 min drive - I'm like a half-hour away) and usually go there twice every spring/summer. They usually call me to see if I want to come however its been five years since I've done so. (I'm either been ill or it was on a night where I had another plans.) Hopefully I'll end that this spring/summer - will erase the awful last time - one of my cousins kids became very ill (had to be hospitalized the following day - was there for almost a week - bad stomach pains.) and we had to leave before the second film (which was the one we wanted to see) started.
